Hi guys. I have been deleting my games that I don't regularly play 1 by 1, and the process is going slowly. Just trying to get my S1 ready for S2 transfer since I have an 1.5TB mSD, and largest mSD Express for S2 is 1TB. When I have been deleting games, it says that they can be re-downloaded again later. Under System settings on my OLED Switch, under the Formatting options, it said that I could format the mSD card. My question is, does doing that just delete games entirely on the mSD, or does it delete them, and then allow you to re-download them again from library? Thoughts and help appreciated :)

Skeet, you've been a member on gbatemp for 13 years and seemingly you have bought a LOT of Nintendo Switch games in the eshop. Do you really not know that titles can be redownloaded from the eshop at any given time?

Wiping your SD will remove all game data, not savegames though, and of course you can re-download them later.
You could also stop worrying and just directly download them onto your Switch 2 once it arrives.

Hi guys. Has Nintendo said anything on how the transfer process will work from Switch 1 to Switch 2? I thought I read that Profile(s) and games will transfer over, but what about if you have games on an mSD card? I am concerned because my mSD in my OLED Switch is 1.5TB, and at my Apartment, my internet speed is only 80 mbps. Even with the 64GB storage on the System itself, transfer would probably take a bit for me. Thoughts appreciated :)

There better be a cute Pikmin animation or I am going to hunt down Reggie and say vulgar things straight to his face

Switch 2 will transfer your profile and games but you’ll need a microSD express card for game storage. You’ll have to re-download stuff from your old microSD.

Well crap, on my 1.5TB mSD in my OLED Switch, I only have about 200GB of free space. Would I be able to just reformat the 1.5 mSD card before initializing transfer process to Switch 2?
Something of an aside to the main topic of the thread, but did you notice any speed issues with the 1.5TB card? I had one that was similarly full, and after a certain point any games on it would be PAINFULLY slow to load. Was like 3-4 minutes to just boot up Smash Bros Ultimate as an example. Ended up swapping it out for a 512GB I had lying around and not having my full library installed.

Still a bit unsure how this will all work. Nintendo really is crappy about the info this generation leading up to launch.
Probably my TB card will remain in my old main use docked Switch, my OLED will still be my go to for Switch 1 backlog, and the Switch 2 will be Switch 2 only with some often played Switch 2 games.

As for saves, for cloud saves im not worried at all. But console locked down saves like Animal Crossing .. .well there is the whole system transfer stuff .. if that will apply to all games your bet is a as good as mine at this point.

Hi again guys. I contacted Nintendo Support today. Here is what the rep said about the transfer process:

So when it comes to transfering data, games which are already purchased will be automatically redownloaded from Nintendo eShop.

I then asked her what would happen during transfer if system memory and mSD Express card fills up, she said that there is no info on that at this time. I am concerned about this as I want to do a successful system transfer, and am pretty sure I am not only one with this concern...
