Hardware Touch screen only horizontally wrong

I've got a touch screen issue calibration doesn't help (tried official which endlessly repeats, GodMode9's, and some Config app I have installed, none fixed the problem). It seems an issue that can't be solved except by replacing it, but taking apart my 3DS is IMO too risky, so I'm asking here in hopes there is another solution.

My problem is best described by drawing a horizontal line (such as in Game Notes). At the edges it's perfectly accurate, but as I get closer to the center, the line keeps getting more and more inaccurate: the screen registers me pressing the stylus more to the left than I actually do. For instance, if I draw the line from left to right, the line draws slower than I move the stylus, but once I'm past the center the line suddenly draws faster than I move the stylus until it's caught up on the other edge (and if right to left, it's of course the opposite: the line starts faster than I actually move, then after the center it goes slower).

Anything I could try that couldd possibly fix this? Doesn't matter if either fixes the middle to make it accurate, or breaks the edges so it's equally inaccurate everywhere (after all, if it's equally inaccurate everywhere, screen calibration can fix that).

Sounds like a hardware issue with the touch screen itself and I doubt you can fix it with software

Open the battery compartment. Check if the battery is [ bloated / swollen / inflated ].

Thanks for the replies. So, it could be the battery swelling up and messing with things? I guess there's no other way than to open the back to confirm this (considering the battery works perfectly fine and the back is still normally shaped, so no clues for me there)? Because I heard the screws can strip quite easily, and knowing me, it'll certainly happen on me.

An expanded battery pushes against the shell walls. The excess pressure deforms the touchscreen digitizer. Once enough pressure has been applied long enough, the digitizer deforms and becomes permanently damaged. It's best to take a peek because a bad Li-ion battery can explode and cause the 3DS to catch on fire.
