Anybody who uses the Wii back in the day, and owned a classic controller has probably asked themselves this at least once. “The hell does that little top middle button do?” It opens little hatches, and nothing more. I’ve tried to look it up but to no avail. Just curious if anyone actually knows or has a good theory on what it’s used/was planned for.

It was planned for (and unofficially used for) a hook that you could attach your Wiimote to, letting you have rumble, motion, and pointer controls on the Classic Controller. The only official game to use such functionality to my knowledge is Splatoon... on the Wii U.

It's in a similar position to the analog L and R buttons, where they were planned for more use, but as far as I know, the only official game to even use the function was Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn, where a partial R press would partially fade the HUD, the same as with the GameCube controller.

Oooh, I see. Huh, that's really interesting.

And, honestly, I actually had no clue the shoulder buttons on the classic controller were analog. It's strange for a controller designed for playing retro games.

But, that makes me curious since I know Brawl makes use of the analog shoulder buttons on GC controllers for shielding, but I actually can't remember if it does anything with the classic controller.
