Hacking Tool to untrim ROM?

I keep getting a black screen randomly when booting up Pokemon X, having me restart over 3 times, I just read online trimming the rom causes this, is this true, and if so, how can I untrim it is there a tool I can use, will I lose my save?

I was under the impression that Card2 games shouldn't be trimmed as that removes the part where game saves go. Correct me if I'm wrong.
