Handheld:
  • Non overclocked: <25fps idling, 20-22fps when moving
  • Overclocked (CPU@1224, GPU@768 (seems to cap out at 614 though), Mem@1600): has a hard time maintaining 30fps.

At this point, I'm wondering if studios even test their games on real hardware or are just expecting people to play emulated and/or overclocked...

I think they just know its a game that young kids will play and they don't complain about the framerate.

Ay, Pendulo Studios... You made some of my favorite graphical adventures, your "Runaway" was part of my childhood... but after years of sloppy games it's very hard to love you.

I might be wrong, but I think Tintin isn't very popular between children... most of the fans are probably grownups.

What do you expect from a console that launched with outdated, broken, terrible performing hardware?
The HW was pretty good for a handheld in 2017.

TegraX1 (a 2015 SoC) was far from being the best CPU available, but it was an excellent mobile GPU compared with the contemporaneous Mali and Adreno.

Switch was super-weak compared to home consoles? Of course, but that applies to all handhelds: PS Vita was superweak compared to PS4, same PSP to PS3.

Honestly, no idea. Tintin never been that big here in Sweden as far as I remember.

We know the Switch isn't the best, it's not a PS5 and it never tried to be one. It's a beefed up 3DS more or less.

nah, in this specific case, a couple minutes play gives you the general idea about the game: they slapped on unreal engine, and that's about it. zero optimisation. textures and vertices popping in and out everywhere, clearly no dynamic optimisation (like dynamic scaling, intelligent LOD...). It's actually surprising to see UE performing so bad out of the box.

Found the issue why game performance sucks. This is what ue4cfgdumper outputs in main menu
Code:
r.DynamicRes.FrameTimeBudget, main_offset: 0x7868B48 + 0x0, type: float 50.00000 / 0x42480000
So for some unknown reason they set DR timing to 50 ms, which means they target deliberately 20 FPS.

probably the quality dpt intern was on weed.
Any idea if it's possible to patch it to reduce that timing? (have no idea what DR means though).

FPSLocker has patch that sets dynamic resolution timing to standard UE4 values. So you can benefit from it even at stock clocks 30 FPS.

It's like having hundreds of games looking and working better than this game will never be enough for Neanderthals like you.
Hundreds of games looking and working better? Really? More like hundreds of games that can't run at native resolution or a locked 30fps without dropping frames. Someone got butthurt because I stated facts about the Tegra X1 being a broken chipset that was outdated before it ever launched. It's almost like it's not public information that the Tegra X1 has been broken since day one. Almost like it's not public information that the Tegra X1 was a terrible chipset because of performance to power consumption ratio. There's a reason why phone/tablet manufacturers stopped using Nvidia hardware.

You're certainly not a loser for hanging around in the Switch forum posting "Switch bad". That's a very cool and productive use of your time, you're making humanity proud.
