With the year come and gone, and with hundreds of video games being released in it, it's about time to do "This Year in Review", a roundup of all the big titles of 2010.

Wii

Guild's Take: With a big game library on the horizon for the first half and a large list of reveals for the second half, the Wii had an overall strong year, despite encountering a dry spell or two. In my opinion...

Biggest Disappointment: Metroid: Other M, by far.
Biggest Surprise: Goldeneye 007, and that it's actually good.
Game of the Year: Probably have to give it to Kirby's Epic Yarn.

The Scores:
+ No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle (84%)
+ Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars (85%)
+ Endless Ocean: Blue World (76%)
+ Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing (78%)
+ Mega Man 10 (81%)
+ Cave Story (89%)
+ Red Steel 2 (80%)
+ Monster Hunter Tri (84%)
+ Trauma Team (82%)
+ Super Mario Galaxy 2 (97%)
+ Sin and Punishment: Star Successor (87%)
+ Metroid: Other M (79%)
+ Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock (77%)
+ Wii Party (68%)
+ NBA Jam (80%)
+ Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 (81%)
+ Kirby's Epic Yarn (88%)
+ DJ Hero 2 (89%)
+ Rock Band 3 (91%)
+ Goldeneye 007 (81%)
+ PokePark Wii: Pikachu's Big Adventure (62%)
+ Sonic Colors (77%)
+ FlingSmash (52%)
+ Call of Duty: Black Ops (79%)
+ Donkey Kong Country Returns (87%)
+ Disney Epic Mickey (73%)
+ Super Mario All-Stars: 25th Anniversary Edition (69%)

DS

Guild's Take: With Nintendo's best-selling hand held walking the green mile, it didn't get a spectacular library for the second half of the year. However, it still had its titles and was able to be put to rest with a good final year.

Biggest Disappointment: Infinite Space, it was just so low quality feeling for what I thought would be a great RPG
Biggest Surprise: All the hate towards the Sonic Classic Collection
Game of the Year: Super Scribblenauts, most likely.

The Scores:
+ Glory of Heracles (69%)
+ Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth (78%)
+ Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing (78%)
+ Sonic Classic Collection (70%)
+ Pokemon HeartGold (87%)
+ Infinite Space (75%)
+ WarioWare DIY (82%)
+ Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey (81%)
+ Picross 3D (83%)
+ Dementium II (75%)
+ Puzzle Quest 2 (83%)
+ Mega Man Zero Collection (77%)
+ Dragon Quest IX (87%)
+ Professor Layton and the Unwound Future (87%)
+ Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs (69%)
+ Final Fantasy: The Four Heroes of Light (71%)
+ Super Scribblenauts (81%)
+ Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals (78%)
+ Sonic Colors (79%)
+ Art Academy (73%)
+ Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem! (79%)
+ Golden Sun: Dark Dawn (79%)
+ Rune Factory 3 (78%)
+ 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (89%)

Special: Guild's Game of the Year

Well, there's been a lot of games across a lot of consoles, and it's hard to chose a single game in particular, but if I must...

Mass Effect 2!

Easily the best RPG game I've played, Mass Effect 2 took the original and fixed a lot of the bugs, bettered the combat, and added an equally gripping and epic narrative. While it did (unfortunately) lose some of the more deep RPG aspects of the first game, it felt like a welcome trade off and still produced an award winning game. With Mass Effect 3 set for release later this year, one can only hope it'll be able to stand up to the juggernaut of this game and the first.

For this year, I'd like to thank all the GBAtemp reviewers (staff and not) for keeping the reviews section alive. I'd also like to thank all contributors to these threads and anyone in general whose helped keep GBAtemp up and running.

Have a good 2011!

Apart from that nit-pick, a very good list. I still need to play most of them.

I've played (from that list):
Sonic Colours Wii
Pro. Layton 3
Super Scribblenauts
Ace Attorney (Need to finish ~ note to self)
Epic Mickey
Super Mario 25th
Payed £0
That almost made me feel bad 0.o

Thanks, fixed it.

And there's a few more obscure but good titles I didn't list, it's worth looking through all the 2010 games to see what you missed.

Wii:

Biggest Disappointment: Metroid: Other M. Special Thanks to Yoshio Sakamoto for ruining everything Samus was.
Biggest Surprise: Sonic Colors. Sonic is Back Baby!
Game of the Year: Xenoblade by far.

DS:

Biggest Disappointment: Golden Sun. It could be FAR better.
Biggest Surprise: Anything special. But Final Fantasy: The Four Heroes of Light sucks like dinosaur balls.
Game of the Year: Professor Layton and Dragon Quest IX.

You really think Kirby's Epic Yarn is better than SMG2 for GOTY?

Sadly I had a lot more fun with Sonic Colors, SMG 2, Other M, and DKCR.

SMG2 was awesome but it was just so... uneventful. I knew it was gonna rock, it would've taken a lot of effort to make it a bad game. Sonic Colors was alright on the Wii, Other M was just bad, and DKCR was a close second (I just preferred the art stylings of Epic Yarn better).

Honestly, meh. SMG2 is only SMG: Lost Levels. New levels and power-ups (Yoshi). Mario Galaxy 2 is being made only because Miyamoto wants to "because I have ideas! Look! A drill where you can make a tunnel to the other side of the planet! Like digging to China!!!". Ugh. This is why, I said, it sounds like developer vanity. (So does the Metroid game, btw. They cannot honestly think Metroid Manga is going to outsell Metroid Prime. It sounds like some developer in Japan has a bug about what he wants Metroid to be.)

The Wii GOTY is Xenoblade. Is FAR better than Sonic Colors, MORE 3D Mario, Metroid Manga and DK (which is awesome).

Since I can't be assed doing a 'Biggest Disapointment', I'm going to leave it a GOTY.
Wii: SMG2
360: Halo Reach. (The 360 didn't have much this year that interested me.)
PS3: Red Dead Redemption (Haven't gotten around to finishing it yet
tongue.gif
)
DS: Professor Layton 3
PSP: METAL GEAR SOLID PEACE WALKER! FUCK YEAH!
Download (PSN, XBL, WW): Pac-Man Championship Edition DX. PAC-MAN FUCKING CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION DX!

Take a guess which games I had the most fun with. Then check the spoiler.
1) MGS:PW
2) Pac-Man Championship DX
3) Professor Layton 3
4) SMG 2
5) Read Dead Redemption
6) Halo Reach
