Hi,

Recently one seller on our local selling site is selling Nintendo Wii for about $20. Problem is that console is working well, but it doesn't read discs. So since I never owned Wii or anything similar, is it possible to hack that console without having need for reading discs? Is usb drive enough to hack it and play back up games?

Picutore of the console:

Yes, all versions of the Wii can be updated and hacked without the optical drive! (but it must be physically connected or some software will refuse to work)

There is a way but you will need a USB stick anything will do but make it about 8 Gigs for like 2 games but if you want more you'll need one that holds a lot of space and a lot of free time on your hands and a computer ( obviously ) also a SD or SDHC card

Start:
Homebrew your wii use Letterbomb it was the easiest for me you will also need your wii's mac address here i'll link you to letterbombs website ( don't pay for any homebrew software as it is all free if you do you have been scammed and demand your money back )

doesn't matter what wire you click :P

after you go do that insert your SD card in your wii

You don't need to type a whole homebrew channel installation tutorial, all OP wanted to know is if they could hack a Wii without discs. The answer for that being yes.

He's just trying to be helpful. I think it's cool that he outlined the process because it addresses how he'll go about it without a disc. [Although I admit I wouldn't follow the advice of someone with 5 posts]

???? i thought that for the latest 4.3 you need a gamedisc and a fixed savegame?
So no working drive could be a no-go when the wii is 4.3

Thing is he is looking at a good deal I mean 20 bucks for a Wii that can't read discs isn't good but if you can make it so it can play Wii games just off a backup loader I would buy that wii
( Any games I have on my backup loader I have previously bought but either got damaged beyond repair or previously owned but lost )
Also a Wii U isn't to cheap. Around 180$-$200+
I would prefer the Wii also because it hosts a lot of great titles like Mario Kart Wii or Mario Party 8 ( before the bad ones 9+ )
There is also a project that revives the Nintendo WFC called Wiimmfii. All he would have to do is patch his ISO's ( hopefully he bought the games in an actual retail disc ) with it and just wait a week ( 7 days )
