The 3ds is overall a lot more portable than the switch. It's got 2 screens which offers a lot, and has many many great games on it. I dont think the switch will kill the 3ds... ever. It is possible nintendo wont make another dual screen handheld, but the 3ds is too different from the switch to be "killed" by it. No ones gonna stop using it.

ehi, wonderful people, WHY will switch kill 3ds? because its portability? well, there's no worry about that if u consider it as a new HOME CONSOLE at 1st place

But why would I, the average consumer, need or want two fully portable consoles made by the same company? Just because it's a 'home console' (which it isn't, it's much more of a hybrid) doesn't mean it wouldn't eat into a 3ds successor's sales.

People claim that the switch will kill the 3DS but the lack of two screens and a price range higher than the launch 3DS will not allow this to happen.

I do see Nintendo making a Newer 3DS using Tegra so it can have the GPU power to drive games at a higher resolution than the 3DS.

Just watch. The 3DS will be floating in the dust. This is next-next-gen sort of technology we're dealing with here.
Didn't Sony already make a overpowered overhyped handheld that was really expensive at launch. 3DS must have died long ago... Oh wait

I can so picture them doing this.

"Well, what should we do? Hmmm... We have the Switch.... The 3DS, the 2DS, the New 3DS.... Let's go with Newer3DS! That way they will brick when installing A9LH for the New3DS! And then a Newest3DS! That certainly won't confuse people! Wii U was an amazing name!

Well, Sony made only few Software for the PSP/Vita, because they were busy with the PS3/PS4.
Given that the Wii U is dead (and Nintendo rarely develops any shit for it anyway), and the 3DS is losing slow but sure its battle to age, Nintendo will be so idle that they will have no chance but to develop for the Switch I hope.

Why the Switch can dethrone the 3DS?
Do not forget that the battery technology is lagging behind everything else ... If we get more than 5 consecutive hours of battery is already very good, given that the specifications will be better than the Wii U (and the GamePad battery already was not much ...)

This is N's last attempt of hardware. If this flops like the WiiU they will need take a page out of Sega's book and revert to software instead.

Well at least like 95% of people I was talking to said the Switch is the first Nintendo Console since the Gamecube they actually consider buying. Most of those are PC enthusiasts, skipped Wii/Wii U and the Switch offers something different. For those people the PS4 (aka Bloodborne machine) and XBOX one are trying too hard being a PC but worse and the Wii/Wii U is too gimmicky and the 3DS just uncomfortable and has a terrible screen resolution/graphics to play at home over using the PC.
The Switch however has a resolution that allows good picture quality (pixel density will be higher than on the first Nexus 7 I still have and that's EASILY enough (I take 720p/60fps over 1080p/30fps any day) and also has the engine to power modern games with support for important engines like unity/unreal engine 4. Also it might bring us a lot of Nintendo Exclusives we were waiting for on the Wii U like Metroid or even Diddy Kong racing.

If the price is right (~300$ or €) and Mario comes shortly after Zelda, I see this thing selling well from the beginning. If we get 3rd party releases as well even more so. Maybe the already existing Tegra X1 games are re-released as well like borderlands/metal gear rising/etc. Those are not "new" games but playing it portable is a bigger selling point than some may think. The Tablet is not that big. I see a lot of people on train with their iPads or ebook readers which are not that small either and for children this is also looking like an attractive product. It's a tablet, something a lot of kids want AND a gaming console. Nvidia couldn't deliver their vision to the masses with the Shield series, but with an influential gaming company like Nintendo this might really take off. We have seen how much hype a mediocre proof-of-concept demo called pokemon go could build up.

i think this is how it goes, these are not smartphones.

but then again, look at how well the vita is doing, there are titles coming out for ps4 which also come out for the vita.

it could be a similar thing with the switch/3ds.

i hope there will be many 3rd party deving games for the switch, i am happy that Atlus said that the switch is a great console for them to make games for.
lets see and wait what happens i guess.
