Yes and the worst is: even if you connected the MIG device with a invalid certificate while the console is offline, you will be banned when that console will back online
I understand N has the info to ban consoles from the certs but have we had any conclusive evidence that has started yet? I guess we’re only really ramping up with MIGs in the wild around now.

has no happenned yet with switch because there is no so many MIGs on the wild, but they did it on the Gateway era, no mercy.

There is one way to find out. Let us know how you make out 🤣

But seriously, I wouldn’t chance it since the Switch keeps a log and Nintendo could decide to enact a ban at any point once your Switch connects online after the ban goes into effect.

What may work ok now is not guaranteed to be safe later.

From what I've gathered, you can use the XCI files and accompanying initial data file from the publicly available dumps, as long as you replace them with the rest of the files from a donor cart. Also, donor cart should preferably be new and unused i.e. the one you're 100% sure no one dumped yet and no one else has the same certs when you connect your console to the Internet. Of course, playing online is out of the question with such setup, but as far as I know, it should be fine to download updates and play games offline afterwards? Unless I misunderstood something?

That should be fine for now i.e. your console shouldn't get banned, unless Nintendo decides to release a ban wave afterwards, I guess?

Here's a slightly off topic question... Under copyright law in my country, i am legally allowed to backup my games for personal use. Would Nintendo be breaking any laws if I got banned for using a backup of a game I legally own?

you can not be banned because (as far we know) there is no way Big N can tell you are using a MIG device or YOUR LEGALLY AQUIERED cartdrige, because if you extract all needed files from the original cartdrige and use them on the MIG, FOR THE CONSOLE they are exactly the same.

I ain't no lawyer but I would assume not since it would be against TOS to use backup/pirated content

Wait for an update?
you can infer what the Firmware for V1 and V2 will be the same:

Not only that, but it would also be illegal in the US for Nintendo to ban a console for playing a rented Switch game (for those who innocently rented and had no idea the rental had been dumped).

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. But I have a feeling that if Nintendo were to start banning Switch’s in the US for running a MIG flash card or a duplicate certificate, they will probably allow support to unban anyone who contacts them and says they own or rented the games that flagged their Switch.

Because if they don’t, it will become a class action lawsuit with people like me who will have proof that we own all the games on our MiG flash card.

Just interested, if anyone has already dumped and tried Pikmin 1 & 2 with the mig switch card.

Asking, since this game is on one cartridge, but two separate games, when inserting into the switch.
Should it not be possible to have something similar with the migswitch?

I dumped it but have not played it yet. However, I also dumped and have played the Metal Gear Solid collection which is 4-5 different games on one cart. The Switch just shows individual tiles for each game on the cart.

So... has anyone ever received one of these from Modded Hardware?

I purchased the dumper tool since that uses a PC and will therefore presumably work regardless of the firmware the switch is on. On Tuesday June 4th 2024 my order #4962 was marked as fulfilled, but without any tracking information. I sent a request asking for the tracking number and didn't get a response. On June 6th 2024 I was sent an email asking me to rate my experience, but decided to wait. I sent one to two requests for tracking information each week since and never received a reply. No reply, no tracking number, and no package received. On the order page when logging in I see a place for a tracking number, but it's blank. The only difference is that the status changed from "fulfilled" to "completed" so I am about ready to initiate a chargeback since at least then they'd have to show proof of shipment which might allow me to get the package if it was mailed at all.

Attached is a copy of what I see regarding the order when I log in. I just redacted my address information from the order for privacy reasons. You can see that I paid $15.28 for UPS ground shipping which does include tracking information so if it was mailed at all there's no reason why they can't provide it.

I cannot tell if they shipped it and just failed to include tracking information or if they didn't ship and their website is just buggy. Either way the experience has been a poor one. For a pre-order I could have waited another month or so, but once a website indicates that the order is completed I have a reasonable expectation to receive proof of shipment and/or delivery.

That aside does anyone know of any reputable store - one that will both fulfill orders and provide tracking information? I checked eBay, but I can't find the dumper there. Just the flash carts. I don't need a flash cart since I have four of the original switch models which don't require hardware modifications to run backups. I just want a dumper to make lawful backup copies of the games I purchased.

Why not just use the dumping app on one of your modded switch's to make legal backups?

Like I said, a PC tool is not tied to the version of the Switch Firmware. I was on SXOS and that's not been updated in a long time. Newer games inserted cannot be read though some can presumably be patched to run on lower firmware. I considered Atmosphere, but it's lack of ability to run images was unappealing to me (it's far more convenient to swap images on a microSD card than repeatedly install/uninstall) and while I was considering Atmosphere regardless the people pushing it just came off as creepy.

Right now I just want to make backups of my games regardless of if I can run them or not. The flash cart is nice in that it now has a button to swap between titles, but I expect that it's existence will either motivate a CFW to include an image backup feature or that another flash cart will come along with a menu select at which point I'll probably buy a flash cart just to not have to deal with the limitations of Atmosphere. I'd much rather use the system's microSD card slot for important data like DLC and game updates although I do hope that at some point in the future we'll be able to modify a cart image to include the game updates or maybe even game mods to be even more convenient.

In any case I did pay the dumper tool and I wouldn't have a reason to buy one if I didn't have games to dump. A pirate would just download games. And of course I didn't get what I paid for hence why I am asking about other people's experiences in buying.

not anybody have a modded console, and, if you have a modded console, MIG do not have much sense to you.

In my case this is partially the case. None of the Switch models have CFW installed on the sysNAND. I have two of the Switches set aside for official play online, although I did create an emuNAND for them on the latest version that SXOS worked, but never actually used the emuNAND and I keep the sysNAND updated. The other two have only have run on SXOS via emuNAND so they are on a real old version of the sysNAND kept that way just in case it would ever be useful.

Last time I looked into Amosphere the typical installation was to use sysNAND, although it could be installed onto emuNAND if one was already created with some difficulty. It was also limited in that it could install games, but could not run cart images such as .XCI files and so didn't really see a reason to update them.

Even though I have CFW the version isn't high enough to dump the games I want to dump and I don't like the limitations of Atmosphere or the attitude of the people who promote it. It makes me never want to even try Atmosphere. And Just because I want to make a backup doesn't mean I need to run it right now.

You clearly did not read his post where he said he had 4 of them. Surely when you saw me mention he could use one of his modded consoles it would be common sense and logical to read his post before replying to mine to tell me he might not have one..?
