OP
I am sorry if this offends anyone. I'm trying to make it so that the reign of noob questions will end. So don't blame me for flooding in with another stupid tutorial, as I am sure it will help many.

Sorry for bumping this old thread. I felt this is needed due to the fact that I've seen many people have problems with Preloader. Hope this'll help. Plus, I updated almost everything

DISCLAIMER

I, OR OTHER DUDES/DUDETTES AFFILIATED WITH THIS GUIDE DOES NOT, I REPEAT DOES NOT, HOLD THE RESPONSIBILITY IF THIS GUIDE OR APP BRICKED YOUR WII!

KTHXBAI
-------------

FAQ:
1)WTF is Preloader?
It's an anti-bricking application which installs itself to the NAND. Coded by the same coder of Starfall.

2)Why Preloader? Why not Starfall?
i) It is easier to repair bricks with Preloader
ii) Starfall only works with 3.2, whilst Preloader works with 3.2 and 4.0
iii) Starfall's outdated
iv)Time to live with the new
v) Preloader rules

3)But the boot time's longer!!!?
If you can't wait a few extra seconds, I can't fathom why you could stand the extra loading seconds when Backup Launcher first came out.

4)Should I flame Preloader?
If you wanna get your ass kicked.

5)I heard that Preloader cannot be uninstalled ultimately. True?
Not any more. Use NandClean to remove Preloader, the hacks, etc.

6)I likez 3oh!3!
Then we shall be team mates, my friend.

7)I set the Preloader up and now I can't access the menu anymore!!!!?
Simple, hold reset while turning on your Wii. It should pop the preloader menu up.

8)On 4.0, I re-installed IOS 60 and now when I turn out my Wii, I hadz brick!!!!!
Go to the Preloader menu, boot HBC, and re-install Preloader. Why? Because IOS60 needs to be patched before Preloader can run smoothly, and when you re-install IOS 60, you remove the patch thus leading you to re-install Preloader.

What you need:

1)Hacks.ini Creator beta 4 (Only works for 3.2) (See Step 2 if you want to set hacks.ini for 4.0)
2)Preloader
3)A 3.2/4.0 Firmware, complete with downgraded IOSes. Do not know what it is? Check Homebrew Starter's Guide, Firmware Section

[Step 1] PREPARING PRELOADER

1)Open the preloader 0.29 rar file.
2)Extract the .dol and rename it to boot.dol
3)Put that .dol into a folder called "Preloader"
4)Put the folder into your apps folder in your SD Card
5)You're done! Time for hacks.ini

[Step 2] PREPARING HACKS.INI

This step only works for people who's Wiis on 3.2. You're on 4.0? Check "Step 2a"

1)Extract everything inside the hacks ini creator into a folder
2)Run hic.exe . It shouldn't ask for a password, if it does, get the beta 4
3)Check your region, PAL for Europe users and NTSC for US users. Tick 0.28
4)Tick all the hacks that you want (Please mind the Disc Area Check and Force Disc Region)
5)Click "create hacks.ini"
6)There should be a hacks.ini file in the folder, put that on your SD Card's root
7)Gratz! You've prepared hacks.ini! Now, let's install it

Yes, I know you've ticked 0.28. But the hacks.ini created for 0.28 Preloader has the same template/format as that of 0.29 Preloader.

[Step 2a] PREPARING HACKS.INI
1)Go here
2)Now, there's four regions (4.0E, 4.0U, 3.2E, 3.2U). You want to go to the region of your own so do that.
3)Copy the hacks you want and paste it on an empty Notepad. Then, save the file as "hacks.ini" without quotes.

[Step 3] INSTALLING PRELOADER

1)Run the Preloader app from the HBC
2)Read the Disclaimer
3)Press "1"
4)It should install
5)Gratz! You installed preloader! Good job!

[Step 4] SET PRELOADER

0.1)Now, after the install, turn off your Wii
0.2)Turn it on again, it should boot a preloader menu, if not, turn the Wii off again. Hold Reset then press on
1)Go to Settings
2)Set autoboot to System Menu, HBC, or installed .dol, or rather, off.
3)Set return to according to your preference, here's a matrix:
i)Preloader: If autoboot is set, it'll boot the autoboot. If not, it'll return to preloader menu
ii)System MenuL It'll just boot to the System Menu
4)Go to system hacks (Should be in the main menu)
5)Gratz! You've set preloader!

Follow Step 4a, to install a .dol to autoboot. If not, then you're basically done.

[Step 4a] INSTALL A DOL

By installing a .dol, it copies the .dol that you chose to the NAND. By doing so, it will enable autobooting to .dol. But not all can be installed and used, so, check them using 3)

1)Now, get the .dol you want to be installed, into the root of your SD Card (No need to rename to boot.dol)
2)Now, open up preloader and go to load/install .dol
3)From there, you could choose a selection of .dols that you have on your SD Card, you could load them by pressing 2.
4)Go to the .dol that you want to install and press A
5)It should install the .dol
6)Gratz! You installed your .dol!

That's it! You're done setting up preloader! Easy, isn't it?

Unfortunately the RAR file no longer contains the preloader DOL, it just has a text saying that that version is out of date.

Thanks for the heads up, noir!

EDIT: LINK FIXED

Thanks for the working link and thanks for this guide. Whenever it's been a few weeks since I've done stuff on the Wii, I'm always a little apprehensive. I appreciate it being broken down so I can worry a little less about bricking my Wii again, heh.

@afif:
Here's a link with:
- Preloader v0.27
- an icon.png
- the meta.xml file
- and both the Ntsc-U/Pal hacks.ini for Mac users' that can't use Hacks.ini Creator to generate the relevant file.
Feel free to replace your link with this one.

Edit: Changed the link to a new one since i've improved the icon.png a little bit.
To all who already downloaded it, please download it again:

nice on afif but i would also include the hacks remover and that when updating your hacks.ini its best to disable all hacks and run the remover first
smile.gif
. also an explanation of each setting and hack would be good.

CODE
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂPreLoader
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂCrediar
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ0.2?
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ200808270000
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂPreloader installer dol
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂPreloader 'replaces' the systemmenu (it's not really replaced, its main.dol is just renamed) with a simple loader which allows you to automatically load the HBC, a .dol/.elf you can install from SD or the systemmenu. To overwrite the autobooting simply hold RESET on bootup. It also allows you to use simple patches on the systemmenu. Modifying the installer can lead to a brick.
ÂÂ
Simply place the supplied hacks.ini in the root of the SD and enter the settings and then the hack settings to select the once you want to use. Once save settings is selected the hacks.ini is copied to the NAND and it's no longer necessary to keep the file on the SD card. The format is very simple and should not require any explanation.
Uninstall

The simpliest and safest way to uninstall preloader is to reinstall the Systemmenu using AnyRegionChanger or a wad installer.
