I think the name is much better then Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. I don`t like numbers in the names. But the best consolename ever is still Sega Genesis

. But "Wii" is not that bad.

Or they could have named it Super Gamecube a.k.a. Supercube

haha, whatever the name is going to be, it's going to be cool. Like someone else said, just call it W.I.I. pernouncing each letter. If not else, "WE" isn't bad. I mean, does anyone really say "I gotta go take a wee" or something? It's not really commonly used. Nintendo is at least trying to go the right direction. Revolution does sound cooler though.

I'm not asking people to come play with my Wii. That just won't go over well. Especially when it's new and people don't know what I'm reffering too....(Though it's not like I planned on getting one in the first place, so I guess I'm good.)

At least it's not the Nintendo Wii Wii.

Ok everybody, we all understand that it sounds like wee wee. Is it really that funny, and is everyone really that immature to make all of these innane comments?

As soon as I saw the name I knew the jokes were coming, but I can't believe they came with this magnitude. I've also never seen so many people bash a console based solely on its name. I've even seen people say they aren't going to buy the system just based on the name.

Are you really that ignorant that you would completely dismiss a console based on its name alone, and you have yet to even see one in person?

I'm not a huge fan of the name myself, but why should it matter? I also understand that some people are just trying to poke fun, because of the obvious similarity, but it has already gotten way out of hand, and this info has only been out for about, 4 hours.

I really hope the true nintendo fans stay strong and the normal fans wise up.

If you gotta defend it, its not a good thing.
If you gotta explain it, its not a good thing.
If it reminds you, even for a second, of an excremetory function, it's not a good thing.
If it makes your dad think you're gay when you ask for one for Christmas, it's not a good thing.

This is not a good thing.

spelled out its not to bad. pronounced, it SUCKS. when i say I GOT A WII FOR CHRISTMAS, its gonna sound kinda gay...

Am I the only guy that doesn't mind this name?

I think it's about as good as "Revolution."

We must be in the 1% minority, I love the name. Original, doesnt use some sort of stupid "iMonicker" and conveys what the system is all about.
I love it.

1% ... yeah that's probably about right. And how does "Wii" convey what the system is all about? It's a meaningless combination of letters. It's not written in japanese like that .. any description that talks about how the two i's mean the two controllers or whatever ... some marketing whizkid came up with that B-S. In japanese this will be pronounced and written "u-i", not "wheee." The english characters that spell out a meaningless word to us will be equally meaningless to them, except it doesn't remind them of expelling waste.

I quite like the name... now, when I first saw it I thought it was a joke, am sure the name will grow on me, once you get over thinking about as you know what (im sorry just can't say it) and thinking of it as a really nice console. Or just call it the Why

Yeah, we know "Xbox" means something. It's a box, kinda X shaped....

You know, that name isn't really bad. We will get used to it.... the Wii... or the Wiintendo.

And get over the Wee thing. People didn't say XXXbox or whatever.

Wii want it now!

*sigh*
Wii = We
The point of the Revolution, unless you've been totally living under a rock, is to bring people together to play games. The video Nintendo made to introduce the Revo, rather, Wii, all showed people playing together. It also conveys that you AND Nintendo are in this, sort of a team effort, if you will. That and the name is original, and extremely unique, which makes it good for people to remember. Making it easy to say has made it transend most language barriers, and even most age barriers. Ask a 4 or 5 year old to keep saying Revolution as to Wii.

Lol yeah ... yeah... Nintendo keeps surprising me ... but hey , i have the same feeling that the one that i had when i saw the controler , the concept is quite thoughtfull.

At least theres one good thing about Wii , it faster to write haha.

I can see this getting confused with Nintendo WiFi. Wii, WiFi... so many W's and i's. Revolution really was better. But whatever, the new name does not change the fact that this console will still be amazing.

Xbox is a name that was produced by a marketing thinktank who really knew what would work in an english speaking mind. Lots of "ck" and "s" sounds give a feeling of power and aggression, and the vague innuendos in the back of your head suggesting sex are telling you that you must own this.

there's a big difference between reminding people of sex and violence vs. reminding them of urinating.

I have not gone so far as to say I will not buy the console because of this. I'm just saying it's a bad choice. The linguistic connotations of "Wii" that will resound in the ears of English speakers when they hear this name are not generally positive or attractive, and are in fact probably somewhat repellant.

If however the "Wii" sells well in the USA and I am proven wrong, I will rejoice. I will say wow.

I always called it pee, or going pee. Not wee...
biggrin.gif

When I hear wee, I think of small. I don't know where everyone else got it. Look up wee in a dictionary and you'll see what I mean Or ya know, I think of WE, which is what it is, and represents. Just because people have the minds of grade school children does not make Wii a bad name. BTW this post was not directed to you, merely a comment on yours.
