It seems odd to remove the wireless switch. I rather like that, that way I could easily turn it on if I wanted to use it and save battery life otherwise. I'm just using a 3DS with a rubber cover over the top and a Hori grip attached to the bottom. It feels comfortable and solid. I don't use the 3D on it, but I'm not concerned about that.

It never fails to amaze me that i can pull my PAL SuperNES out of the cupboard, plug it in, blow out the cartridge slot, insert Lufia & the temple of doom (also blowing on its contacts) and play until the cows come home. I've had that thing since 1994.

I also have a clear case original gameboy and pokemom blue that work like a charm, got the gameboy in 1992 and pokemon blue when it released in Aus (mid 90s?)

Those have lived on while my PS1, N64, XB360 and PS3 died within a couple of years.

"They don't make em like they use to"

Thanks to some shenanigans I got a N3DS almost for free (I only had to say goodbye to my MTG cards ;O; ) and I feel like I am experiencing a downgrade with some stuff:

- The shell feels super-cheap
- The audio feels weaker
- The second "analog" is a joke
- No wireless button
- The stylus keeps screaming "CHEEEEEEAP!"

By the way, do we have third party faceplates yet?
-My O3DS shell creaks when I press it
-I only use headphones :tpi:
-Nub/Nipple/Cylinder
-Can't have you stopping those updates on demand, now can we? ;)
-Extendo-Stylus masterrace
-G&W faceplate?

I was considering to return it and use the store credit to buy junk food and a Japanese body cushion until I tried the 3D... Wow. I can finally play every 3D game in 3D without losing the effect everytime I press a button (try playing Smash with the 3D on on an old 3DS, seriously). I forgot how gorgeous the games look in 3D. I am impressed.

Also mad.

It took you four years to realize "hey, let's track the eyes of the player so they won't lose the 3D effect!"? I feel like the 3D would've been the next greatest thing if this super 3D thing were implemented on day-one.

So yeah, I am keeping this thing for the 3D effect alone. I'm gonna miss everything else, but hopefully I can get used to it. The menu also feels a lot faster, so that's a plus too I suppose.

I believe the shell feels cheap because the faceplates are super thin and bend (and creak) very easily, other than the faceplates, the quality is fine.
There are a ton of 3rd party faceplates in Japan, amazon.jp has them, but I haven't seen any elsewhere.
Audio feels weaker compared to o3DS, or o3DS XL? It might be a bit worse than the o3DS but it's certainly better than the XL.
Second analog actually works really well for camera control, better than a regular circle pad would have, have you even tried it?
Wireless button - it's in the home menu. I don't see a problem here.
Stylus is crap and tiny but I have a pen-size Hori stylus in my pouch so :P

- Mine didn't :(
- I didn't :(
- wat
- I don't care about updates, I just don't like not being able to control when the console is and isn't connected to the internet. Especially when I'm low on battery and not using the online functionality it seems a waste of battery. Also, Nintendo has always been super paranoid about pacemaker, hospitals and airplanes. What now that the wireless is active 24/7?
- Absolutely
- I saw that! But I want more :(

Can you link me at some? I remember when dealextreme had a fuckton of DS Lite shells, some with funky leds too. I want them to do the same with the faceplates.

Also, wireless button in the home menu? Huh...I'll check that out.

I feel exactly the same as the OP. My original 3DS XL was superior to my New 3DS XL in any way, better screen, better stylus, better build quality. Except the 3D of course. I can't go back to my original 3DS XL because you can't transfer to an Old 3DS from a New 3DS.
