After you throw it, you can no longer do anything to affect its acceleration. It will in fact accelerate at a constant rate of "g" as he described regardless.

The only thing his initial throw will do is affect initial velocity.

It unlocks the CD tray manually, in case you don't have power to the drive and you need to get it open. From there, the springs should push it out a bit, letting you grab it and pull it from there. Of course, it doesn't do a lot if the drive itself is jammed, but you'll probably have to hit it anyways.
