Nintendo has explained its decision to only release promising Wii Japanese role-playing game The Last Story in Japan.

"With all the conversions, when we do it in Europe we've got to do the whole of Europe," Nintendo UK boss David Yarnton told Eurogamer. "So it's multiple languages. It has to be viable.

"We've got so much on our plate at the moment. The most important one is in the first quarter this year. Kirby's Epic Yarn is the most important title. We've got some great product coming out.

"On top of that, when we add in 3DS, it's just so much."

Nintendo disappointed many European and North American Wii owners when it revealed it's decision to keep The Last Story Japan exclusive.

The Mistwalker-developed title has attracted a great deal of attention from Western gamers through the release of eye-catching trailers and translated information from Japan.

While Nintendo repeated it's "no plans to release The Last Story in Europe and the US" stance to Eurogamer, it did offer a glimmer of hope.

"We've released quite a lot of RPGs on the Wii in the UK," Yarnton said. "It's an area that's been growing for us. It's up to the market. We never write anything off."

EDIT: As Giga_Gaia pointed out, this means it will most likely not come to Europe. There may however be a possibility that it's coming to North America, because there they only have to reckon with one language, English.
And if it comes to NA, we Europeans-who-can-speak-English can enjoy it too

Fuck. That. Shit!

So what he say is, nah, we won't take it to Europe since we have to include more languages than English, and since we're having so much text to translate in Kirbys epic yarn (.. and the 3ds) We can't take this on.

Nintendo is cracking down on localizations and globalization lately. What have importers, western gamers, and the like ever done to you Nintendo?

This is just awful news actually, the Wii doesn't have a lot of RPG's and this would finally be something that can fill that hole a bit. Such a shame....

It seems like it is more likely that NoA would localize it, since they could focus on just one language but as far as I experienced in the past time NoE is far more willing to localize games that are a bit risky (who knows why they think it is risky to localize a game of this caliber) then NoA is unfortunately...

Imo if the demand for the game stays on this level there could most definitely be enough fuzz to make them consider a localization.

Eh... pretty lame excuse if you ask me. I mean, is there really that much text in need for translating for Kirby's Epic Yarn and the Nintendo 3DS system? Just employ more Japanese-fluent people in their respective regions, and we'll see if it's that much of a hassle.

It could very well come to North America, because this article is about Europe, not North America.

Don't say it's not coming to North America, the game isn't out in japan yet and they wouldn't announce a release date before it's released there. Also, this article is only applying to Europe since they only have to translate in english in North America, not other languages.

Just got to wait and see for north america. I think they will release it, they wouldn't pass on such a big title made by the guy who created final fantasy.
