Dissidia: Final Fantasy was a big hit when it first hit the PSP in December. In fact, there was a sequel already planned out for it, even before the game even got to stateside. But in an interview with Tetsuya Nomura, he already had everything ready but had it shot down.

QUOTE said:
There are no current plans for a sequel. To be honest, I wanted to do one up until a few months ago. I even called [Mitsunori] Takahashi, the planning director, and [Ryuji] Ikeda, the lead programmer, to talk about sequel concepts -- I told them to think about what they were going to do and prepare themselves [to make a sequel]. However, circumstances inside the company wiped that idea out... to actually make [a sequel] happen would be very difficult given the situation.

That's a big let down. But there is still some hope Nomura also had this to say.

QUOTEIf a lot of fans ask for a Dissidia II, circumstances might change. I'd like to think about the matter again if that happens.

I dont see how it would work though... Maybe 2 characters per Final Fantasy game? Or maybe they would include new FF games, such as Tactics, Crystal Chronicles, etc?

I already had a feeling there's going to be a sequel. I'm pretty sure the idea's going to rise again. I wouldn't give up that easily on a sequel. But releasing it too soon might be a problem when they can continue selling the first one. I'd probably expect a year or two before a sequel is announced.

why limit it to the main final fantasy?
Bring on characters from FF mystic quest, chrystal chronicles, tactics, kingdom hearts... why not even throw in a few characters from other squenix franchises? dragon quest, chrono, illusion of time/gaia + terranigma + soul blazer... SaGa series? more epicness? indeedsy!

Then it would be Dissidia: SquareEnix

Why does it need new characters?
Can't it just have new attacks and etc.?

Once I play the original Dissidia in English, I'm sure I'll want a sequel as well, as will most people. >_>;
