ok, then again, all should be fine :)

I'd better use USBGX dump, so it works with cIOS mode.
neek should work fine with that dump too.

when you launch neek, you'll get a version of vWii which is actually a rebooted/patched/redirected system menu.
from here, you cannot launch homebrew or access SD/USB anymore.
to exit neek, select "return to wiiu" channel to reboot the console and clean the memory patches.

so just rename usb_kernel.bin to kernel.bin, and drop it in the usb/sneek folder? how does usbloader gx know which version of neek you're using? does it just scan for the sneek folder on both the sd card and usb device?

if you have the path of your EmuNAND folder to USB, it looks on USB:/sneek/
if you have the path on SD, it looks on SD.
Be sure to use the first FAT32 partition if you have more than one on your USB.

If you use Nswitch, it's a homebrew which reboots into Bootmii.
Bootmii always loads the SD:/sneek/kernel.bin

if you have the path on Sd, that's only the needed file.
if you have the path on USB, you need to but the USB kernel on both SD and USB, as the SD will be loaded first by bootmii and then the USB file will be used.
USBGX just doesn't need the "USB version on sd", so you can put both the different (real) USB and SD version at the same time, and have multiple NAND path, the loader will use the correct one.

the NAND dump is not a file, it's multiple folders.
you place ALL the folders to the root of your device.

only Neek2o is compatible with NAND's copy located inside a sub-folder (not directly on root)

Hey guys, just managed to hack the vWii here with method 1, but I can't seem to find some screen settings to make the games run fullscreen, there's always a black border on 4 sides of the screen, similar to Wii U before configuring the screen size. Strange thing is USB Loader runs fullscreen by default, but the games load with the border. Is this normal or am I missing some configuration on USB Loader? Cause I can't find it. Thanks in advance!

this is normal, it's how WiiU is designed to run in vWii mode. it's not a 480p anymore, your WiiU is displaying a full 1080p now, and it has to fit 480p inside 1080 lines, it seems it's not filling it entirely. maybe a ratio issue. or an overscan issue they chose to use on vWii.
run an officially installed channel from vWii's system menu, it should be the same.

USBLoaderGX interface is setting custom (non standard) sizes.
nintendont can let you change it in the settings.
but the wii games use their own specified size from developers. maybe it could be forced, but it would require a new set of option in the loader.

sorry if this question is off-topic. If so, please kindly let me know and I'll seek advise somewhere else. Google wasn't much help.

I've followed this guide from beginning to end. I managed to install a fceugx, an NES emulator, and installed a forwarder for it. Everything thus far works well.

However, inside fceugx, wii remote won't work *inside* the game, with the only button that works is the HOME button that brings out the setting menu.

Is there extra setup needed for the wii remote?

any help is much appreciated,

I am on 5.5.2U and I just used 5.5.2 webhax to install haxchi. Can I still install from WiiU homebrew launcher or do I still need a Wii Disc?

as long as you can run homebrew on WiiU, you can use WUPhax.

The 5.5.2 notice was added when 5.5.2 didn't have browser exploit, and you needed haxchi or CBHC installed to use homebrew.
you can now use browser hack on 5.5.2, but it's better to install haxchi first, and use haxchi to launch any homebrew instead (it's more stable than browser hack)

Hi,

I followed this tutorial some time ago and hacked my vWii successfully. I was on 5.3.2 and used the Super Smash Bros game disc method - with my vWii games on a external hdd and my Wiiu backups on an SD card. All worked well.

I have since updated my WiiU to 5.5.1 and done the CBCH.

I would like to get my vWii up and running. Where would I start?

My old HDD with all my vWii safe and I have backups of my old SD card if that help.

Thank you.

Do I need haxchi if I am on 5.5.2? Can I use 5.5.2 with the new webexploit like I did with 5.5.1 and loadiine.ovh?

Vwii should still work as nothing has really changed on that side of things. Just check to see if the apps themselves have updated

This is what I was hoping for.. I really want to keep my old saves etc..

With my old setup - I had Super Smash Bros Disc in the WiiU, selected Wii from the WiiU home page, that booted into the vWii from there I could select HBL then USBLoaderGX and it would show all my wii games on my external USB HDD.

Now - I put Super Smash Bros Disc in the WiiU, select Wii from WiiU homepage, vWii boots ok, I can select HBL, which loads but there are no apps listed in the HBL.

Can I simply copy over some folders from my old SD card (my old setup) to my new SD (my new setup). Which folders? Or am I over simplifying it?

Can you use a SSD for vWii? I have one spare and thought it might be perfect - less chance of failing, cooler, less power draw but I wondered about fragmentation etc.

Thanks!

EDIT: Turns out it was really simple: in the root of my old SD card was a folder called apps, copied that over to my new sd card and HBL in the vWii now has items, including USBLoaderGX, which reads from my old USB hdd. All saves, play counts etc loaded fine.

Just injected wuphax to the vWii Mii Maker Channel with the first method, when I launch the Mii Maker Channel now, it says "boot.elf not found". Anybody knows why?

EDIT: fixed, it haven't worked with a microSDHC plus adapter, it worked fine for me with a normal SD

Can I use an externally powered hard drive with a USB Y cable, OR do I have to plug it in into a wall socket no matter what? This is concerning playing games off an HDD via USB Loader GX

No idea.
The internal PCB and connectors are maybe not wired the same way with drives using external power and the one using USB power.
they probably are wired to get power to their respective connectors.
but you can try, at worse the HDD will not power ON at all.

I followed the guide, its very good, got my wii u running now with 2 usb's one for vwii (wii games only) and one for wii u with a bunch of games, gamecube games on the sd because i kept getting problems with nintendont when having both hdd's connected at the same time. The only thing i cant seem to figure out is the virtual console on the vwii. I have a large sd card of 128gb so i was trying to put a good majority of the virtual console on it. I would install them with not another wii wad manager and they would install to the system menu and work, however, the minute i would transfer them to the SD card for space they would no longer boot and no longer be transferable to the system menu. This would require me to delete it and reinstall the wad in order to play the game. Is there a way to not have this happen, im assuming i need to patch a certain ios or something but i dont know where to start.

installing pirated WAD channel on the official SD menu requires you to patch your IOS80 to not check the validity of the launched channel.
IOS80 is the IOS used by the system menu, patching that IOS remove the signature check and lets you launch pirated content located on SD menu.

most people don't install games directly to their vWii memory, but on a copy of that memory (wrongly called EmuNAND).
the USBLoaders can launch channels installed on the NAND copy, allowing you to install as many games as you want as long as you have enough space on your device (SD or USB).

The user who wrote the guide had always been certain that other people NEVER play channels, wiiware or virtual console because HE didn't.
I often told him that people would appreciate if it was included in his guide.
I also never took the time to add it in the guide myself (My fault too :P) not wrote a proper emuNAND usage guide.

Until there's a easy to follow emuNAND guide, you can just patch your IOS80.
it's dangerous, but I don't remember anyone reporting problem or bricks. (except people following BAD guide which tells to install WADs, instead of using the proper installer and patchers for the correct console)

IOS80 patcher for vWii

Ok, I followed this guide and was able to get usb loader gx and nintendont installed. Running one of my wii backups from my usb hd works fine, but when I try to run a gc iso it pops up a message that I need to set the main game path for gamecube games, even though the path is already set. If I try to run nintendont directly from the hbc and select usb it pops up a red error message that there is no usb device connected with a fat partition and then kicks me back to the hbc.

Is there something wrong with my setup, or could it be that my hd is not entirely compatible even though I can play wii games off it just fine?
