He's been called Eggman in some territories since the very first sonic game, more recently it's basically that his name is Dr Robotnik (Original western name) and his nickname is Eggman (original Japanese name)

Anyway, pretty much all of the characters outside of the original Sonic, Tails and Knuckles are instantly forgettable in my opinion.

Knuckles is easily my favourite, Second would be Sonic. I'm not a big tails fan and I hate Eggman ( Dr. Robotnik )

Shadow(sports my favorite colors and is just a cool character BUT in the recent games, they made him appear as a dumbass ("where am I?" "who are you?") Metal Sonic, Knuckles and I hate Tails lol.
