First of all: I love the 3DS.
It's so much fun to play with, the 3D looks great and everything is awesome.

BUT: The left edge of my 3DS above the circle pad is squeaking. I've been to other forums and most of them say the same. This sound is really irritating once you hear it.

This is making the noise:

Do you people have the same issue?

All of the Best Buy kiosks I've played the 3DS on did not have that problem.
The circle pad felt and sounded just like a really really good psp analog nub.

It better squeak... I love squeaking sounds while playing my games, it feels like I'm there.

I'm talking about the left side of the 3DS, not the circle pad.
This is what I mean:

You probably should "break in" the 3DS. Fold the hinge a few times and see if it helps.

At least the hinge isn't used in gameplay!

Whoops, same, I can't test that at Best Buy locations, they are locked open. Sorry

The sqeaking is coming from the plastic rubbing against the other side because the left side is slightly loose

For every model of the DS that comes out... people always complain about this.

Once someone gets something new, they are over precautious with it, and notice every little flaw.

It's not the end of the world because it squeaks... I'm sure they all do that.

well, I haven't heard it from the demo 3DS at my Best Buy. You already have a 3DS? I hope it's not a frequent problem with most (or anyone's) 3DS systems.

Mine doesn't squeak, but it's Japanese.

its a conspiracy!!! make all non-japanese 3ds squeak!! heh jk! I remember when i first got my psp 1000, returned it 3 times due to bad pixels. Never had any issues with my ds phat or ds lite.

After reading this I went to Bestbuy just to find out If the preview unit they have makes the noise and to try It out for about a half hour but at first It was locked down to some magnetic platform with a big cord. I got one of the associates and he was nice enough to remove all that while he stood nearby and I'm glad he did because that probably would have tempted me to do something stupid like run off with It lol. (No seriously I wouldn't do that anyways.) The left hinge did indeed squeak and the noise was annoying. The Bestbuy guy said "No wonder they lock them down besides someone trying to steal It before launch It also covers up a design flaw and how very smart of Nintendo." But yeah, I don't know If all of them are affected by this but It looks like at least some are. I wasn't able to test my flashcards on It but did get to check out the menu and camera's and took a 3D picture which was cool something I couldn't do with the thing locked down because It always would launch the Pilot Wings demo when you turned It on. The 3D effect is alright but you really got to get in the zone to keep It. I kinda don't like how you can lose It so easy with a little movement of your head and everything blurs badly.

Gengar and ZeroDeception: what color was the 3ds you have/tried at best buy?
hakujintanuki: what color is your japanese one?

i'm thinking maybe the squeaking is only for a certain color (like how the white ds lite had worse hinges than the black)

Yeah It was a blue one at the store maybe color has something to do with It. Maybe the black ones are built at a better or different factory and the blue ones somewhere else. Here's hoping cause I'm getting a black one also.
