Because the entire film industry is nothing but nostalgic remakes and a lack of original ideas. Scream (2022) felt very natural and worthwhile commentary on the current state of the horror genre, but this trailer just made me think "Didn't I watch this movie in 2018?"

Side note, I'm absolutely sick of these "remake a classic horror franchise with the original title" requels. Combine that with the development hell that this movie has suffered from, and I've lost any and all hope for this one.

Once I saw that out of place Tesla, I knew Netflix fucked it up again .... and then I saw the final scene in that trailer and had the certainty that I was right.

Let's be completely fair; this movie was a wreck well before Netflix got sold the distribution rights. Every single test screening has been overwhelmingly negative, and Netflix has only been attached since last August.

I'm certain they've ordered at least a few re-shoots since then, and it's entirely possible that they've added scenes that don't need to be there, but this was never going to be good with or without Netflix.

You are probably right - but it realy makes you wonder.
The source material has so much potential to be realy good horror movie and to then come up with such stupid ideas, realy makes you wonder for who they made this movie.

The whole trailer made it look like nothing more than a slasher movie with Gen Z jokes on top.
It's a shame realy - but probably good enough for Netflix.

You won't hear me argue there; the original film is one of my favorite horror films of all time, and slasher horror is absolutely my favorite genre of film. Seeing the series reduced to this, simply because of the staying power of Leatherface as a horror icon, is heartbreaking. Though in fairness, most films in the TCM series are just straight up bad. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 and 4, specifically, are bottom of the barrel horror films.

The OG TCM is my all time favourite horror film, and has been since I first saw it in the early 80's (pre the UK's 'video nasties' fiasco). None of the sequels could ever compare, but I enjoy Part 2 in its own right, and Part 3 (Leatherface) is good enough (if you watch the workprint/directors cut). Part 4 is trash, despite having McConaughey and Zelwegger in early roles, but it at least tries to expand the mythos/narrative.

All the recent reboots and sequels have been really bad... although not entirely unenjoyable. Whichever one had Alexandra Daddario in was probably the high point.

All that in mind, this new one doesn't look completely terrible. ...it probably will be, but I'm prepared to view it on its own merits.

First two or three scenes. OK then, fairly modern camerawork/colour grading (cabin in the woods did similar and was OK) which I can almost ignore and bit of a throwback. Can't be as bad as OP said. Glimpse of the mask was not great but maybe it will be a hidden villain. Claims that it was from the minds of Evil Dead (if that was the remake that is not a strong claim)
By the end... oh dear. Almost enough for me to want Rob Zombie back as remake/sequel steward of horror and I never thought that day would come -- his stuff did not do it for me but he at least clearly loved it and understood it where this... not even close.

It is not as though old school horror can't still be done/found either -- watched Blood Drive a few years back and was ultimately thoroughly entertained (might want to stick it out through the first two or so episodes for it to find its flow). I will even take the syfy channel's other efforts in this. Watched the original for the first time maybe 10 years ago when I was doing a "films you should have really seen" kick and was generally amused, though I tend not to care much about slasher films -- body horror, supernatural, grindhouse knob turned to 11 and this is what lurks deep down in the human mind being my general choices for a direction there.

Will not be watching unless by some miracle it is actually good. Though development hell, what I saw there and Netflix being attached... that would be some miracle.

Yeah, tbh i just don't bother with these sequels/ soft-reboots anymore, everything's mediocre in them (acting, writing etc). The slasher genre's been dead for decades, and i don't think this will change anything..
Also a big fan of the first one, haven't seen any of the sequels though.

Good lord, I am not even a big slasher/horror kind of guy but even I can see how bad this is.

I find it funny that they basically want to move/live out in a ghost town where the idea of owning something like a Tesla would be horrible since most ghost towns are not even remotely set up for charge stations or even have a newer grid/infrastructure to support the power needed to charge a Tesla.

How much you want to bet that at some point they will not be able to escape because their car is out of electricity?

We all know its going to be about dumb teens having sex in an old abandoned house and they get killed 1 by 1 till the last dumbest person is alive.

I mean, it looks like it'll have some sort of budget in terms of the kills and the gore, if the Fear Street trilogy is anything to go off of. But there's no way this will be worse than the Leatherface movie that came out in 2017.

It will be better than Fear Street... that was one of the worst 'horror' series this side of Twilight.

Its the end of hollywood. Only remakes and nothing new since years. TCM was mostly boring. But I was like the workprint from Part 3 and 4. coming up with Scream 5, Matrix 4, new Jackass movie rolling on, but nothing new. I have not even interest in download a shitty copy for this titles. :)
