Just wondering if I'm doing something wrong here. When I try to start Pokemon Violet after buying Teal Mask, it says it has to check that I can play it. If I am not connected to the internet, I get "Unplayable downloadable content or update data was found. Connect to the internet to check software status".

I let it check but it did not clear either of these messages. What do I do so I can play without a continuous internet connection, or is this some kind of online-only DLC?

Hello,

I had a different issue in Scarlet but maybe it can help you. I was able to start the game, fully updated to 2.1.0 but did not receive Jacq(Cinio)'s call at start.
First of all, make yourself sure you've purchased at the eShop the right version, as there are DLC for Scarlet and for Violet, both are different in the store. Then check you are on version 2.1.0 of the game, and also up-to-date on your switch firmware.

As the cause of the problem is different, please disregard this comment, and see below posts. I leave it under the spoiler tag just in case it can help someone with the same issue I had.
If nothing of this works, I did something similar to this:
Ensure you have a good connection first, then go to settings, data management, violet -> delete program (this will require you to take the cartridge out, and will NOT delete your savegame, as your switch will tell you).
Then you can insert the cartridge again, go to the eShop and find the Pokemon Violet + DLC bundle pack, and scroll down until the Teal Mask banner, it will appear with a Bought tag. Press it and it will allow you to download the data related to the DLC.
When it finishes, press + button and install updates via internet.

The DLC is not online-only, I hope you can solve it!

its an account thing. Set "primary console" on the account you got the DLC.

this is the official way to do it: https://en-americas-support.nintend...the-primary-console-for-your-nintendo-account

If you are on CFW use the linkalho application instead, it will work within seconds.

Is your system set to primary console?

Thanks all, that was it! I didn't know a "primary console" was even a thing, since I only ever had one console until recently lol.

Can someone guide me for CFW? I've linked my account via linkalho, reinstalled the updated & dlc, but still no prompt when I run the game. Am I doing something wrong?

There's even more to primary and secondary consoles. You can play content you bought on two consoles simultaneously, on your primary and your secondary Switch console. You can play your content with any account on the primary console. On the secondary one you can only play content with the account that bought it. Consequently, you can play the same content using the account that bought it on your secondary Switch while playing the same content using a different account on your primary Switch.
My gf and I are making use of this a lot. Sometimes it makes it more viable to buy multiplayer games on the eShop, as we only need to buy the game once, while we'd have to buy two cartridges in order to play together otherwise.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
