Paper Mario PC port "Paper Boat" gets its first public release

After being in the works for quite a while now, the latest project from the Harbour Masters team finally makes port. You can now download the first release of Paper Boat on Windows, Mac, and Linux, with the game being playable from start to finish. At the time of writing there aren't a huge number of enhancements, with the game supporting custom aspect ratios and a few cheats. There is a mod menu included though, so I'll be excited to see what the community comes up with for the game.

As always this project ships without any assets, requiring you to provide your own ROM on first boot. Be reminded that this forum is not a place to request or share such things.

People trying to defend AI by saying we're complaining about getting something for free which is objectively false.

We didn't get Paper Mario on PC, we've had Paper Mario on PC for decades now. I remember playing it on Project 64 22 years ago on a potato which couldn't even render the active camo in Halo PC

What it cost us is affordable memory to run our games on, clean water and clean air.

Very well said. People won't know the cost of AI until it's too late, unfortunately

My friend and I were so excited to see this come out.
I really wish I hadn't read this thread. Especially not after discovering HM tried hiding the fact they used AI slop code.

I'm not going to tell my friend though.
I can't take away his hype.

Can we quiet down on AI discussion. I dont care, if you dont like it dont play it. but if they are using it as a tool and not a brain then its fine by me. They clearly know what they are doing, they arent letting it loose or whatever.

And fyi everyone here is probably not a programmer, if you are you will understand that to port something you need a deep understanding of what you are porting. And AI can help summarize that so you and it can gain the understanding.

Doesn't matter if we like it or not. We won't play anything because all of the gaming components are stuffed into server farms the size of villages.

Pokemon Randomizer JX dev here I'll add. I scoured multiple ROMs in a hex editor and applied multiple bugfixes in a language I had no prior experience with in just a few hours without any assistance.

I also wrote memory mappers for every non english version of Pokemon gen 1 for Gamehook with just a RAM editor and VS code.
