Hold on Hold on, why in the flying f#^$* is anyone still in 3.4?

Downgrade to 3.2, and using Emporor of Canada's guide, which also comes with the Shop channel installer. and Just search for the Mii channel update, you're bound to find it.

3.4 is the WORST System menu to be on. If you want homebrew, stay away from it.
i havnt come across 1 thing that dont work on 3.4 besides making the disc channel launch backups but menu rebooter works for that, also so does gamma .3b

I just want to find a way to make the disc channel do it automaticaly

Starfall doesn't work. and a few other technicallities that you most likely won't experience right away.

The safest and best firmware is 3.2. Because it actually has BENEFITS, it doesn't take that much to just downgrade.

srath... not to sound mean... but phratt is saying some good shit man.... you are pissing in the wind at the moment.... and with preloader only working on 3.2 as well.... why would you want to stay? come on man..... somebody slap this kid!

crezwell here i come with those links...

I know what your saying about 3.2 being the best AT THE MINUTE. But what about the next update? or games that'll start requiring 3.4.

Or even those people doing it for friends and family (Like me), I don't want to limit what I can and cannot use from nintendo because I'm on an older system menu, and I know that some people (like my dad) will be on shop channel every few days. I don't want to have to overhack his system (i.e. more than needs to be done). And while the shop channel can be hacked to work with 3.2 at the minute, I don't think he'd be impressed with lots of other stuff on there besides homebrew channel. Just to make sure he can use it like he did before.

I'm on 3.4 and happy with it for now, and I'm confident that starfall and preloader developers will figure out a way to get their stuff working on 3.4 at some point in the future.

and if not, nevermind, I can still run HBC and gamma without problem.

While I would switch to 3.2, I'm confident in my abilities, I wouldn't do that to anyone elses, so I stay on 3.4 to help others with their 3.4 problems too.

games will never require a certain system menu, they require specific ioses...

Both methods aren't future proof at all! (*edit: you always need to add patches/updates manually with a replaced system menu IOS)

Most future proof is, have IOS249 installed and the HBC.

@WiiPower... glad to hear that you are on to something with maybe not this project in mind.. but hopefully it inspired you to brew some new ideas in that intelligent mind of yours.. Good to hear the morale is high with some of our allstar players!

When it's done, it could be used to install this setup. With the difference that it will be a legal way and the wad pack is surely illegal.

WiiPower,

I have read this entire thread, and feel comfortable doing the upgrade as many other have done, but thought I would ask if you reccommend waiting for the new install you are working on. I have always found it best when in doubt, to go right to the source of the matter. Since I have seen alot of posts saying do it and then dont do it......

Thanks for the help and all the hard work!

ummm, like what dont work. Ive never tried starfall, so i cant say. As far as benefits, i dont know what you mean. wiiware, vc, all homebrew and backups work perfect on 3.4.

patched ios50 loaded, but now i get the update icon in the disc channel, same thing that happened to me in 3.2

Maybe launching games from the disc channel causes a hash check on the IOS that they require. And since all the IOSes have been "hacked" they fail the hash check and the game prompts for an update.

I realize that most of the people using this hack understood the consequences of what they were doing (and felt it was worth it), but think about it:

- ALL IOSes now use the same 00000001.app containing DVD drive code, whereas before there were four different .app files containing DVD drive code and different IOSes used different .app files.

- ALL IOSes between 9 and 22 have been completely replaced with different IOSes.

- The hashes of all IOSes have been altered by adding the DIP code and now all games prompt for updates unless you have Starfall installed.

If you are reading this thread and thinking that this is a pretty harmless hack then you need to consider these things. For everyone else....well I guess "have fun"!

It seems the actual method is safe, so if you know what you are doing and don't do stupid things in the future, you should be safe. But i think the solution now is not the final solution, so if you can play all your games from Gamma and/or SoftChip, you should wait.

My new installer would do the same thing as the actual setup, so there's no need to wait for it.

Oh, and i know somebody working at something interesting, which wouldn't require to patch IOS30.

Thanks for the fast reply.. I am not having any issues, so I think I will just wait.. I was just hoping to play games from the normal loader, not the backup loader... But based on what you have said, I think I will wait and see what pans out..

Thanks again for all the hard work, it is much appriciated!

Just a quik question just so nobody gets bored here.
What does the following IOS'S on 3.4 all do:
IOS254
IOS5
IOS51
IOS10
IOS4

I know IOS50 is for the main MENU

I have all the IOS so if someone needs them, PM me.

Srath well thats good i'm glad the patched IOS50 worked, i already knew though you wouldn't be able to play your games, cause you can't block the updates
smile.gif

But it still shows the method works even on 3.4, So thanks for answering some questions for me. And not bricking your wii

If your on 3.2 with starfall installed, there are absolutely no problems with this. It is a pretty harmless hack unless you have no idea what you're doing, in which case you shouldn't be doing this anyway.

ok i'll heres my method,
This is really hard for me sense i dont have a wii_fs folder to look at, i wish someone else could give him better direction's

First download this, http://foxingworth.com/wii/tf_wad_packer.zip

first copy your 00000032 folder and go inside the root folder called title0010001 and paste the folder there

now go to the tickets folder called TIKET in root and look under 000000001 and copy the 00000032.tik from there
now go back to the Main Ticket folder and go inside the 00010001 foler and paste the 00000032.tik there now you wii need a copy of the common.key copy it to the TF packer folder i PMed it to you
now load up the TF packer and it should now show FW or Fm and just pack that

I'll upload the common.key now for you

There reason the method is so messed up is because the TF packer wont wont see the ios like it does a VC game
You could try the Older TF packer which i have a download link for a couple of pages back, or you could use ether methods copy just copy out the files in pack with a wad packer, its a couple of pages back also, either should be fine, I not even sure if i gave you the right direction cause i dont have a WII_FS to go over to see the file layout

Wiiblaster. everyone,

first a little bit of background.
I am planning on installing the cios...
but I ain't the lazy one.. I am interested in doing it myself.

so I dumped the FS and then tried multiple things.. but .. i am not happy with the result.
and the resulting cios, although they seem to be build correctly are different from the one provided in cioscorp....

I will only share the experience I had with TF_wad_packer
1. copied the file as you mentionned.. no prob with that.. it is totally clear
2. run tf_wad_packer
3. select the firmware to pack
4. GREAT.. ME HAPPY... I have a firmware.wad which I rename iosXX.wad (and I SAVE this file because it is so great to have a backup
biggrin.gif
) AND all the unpacked files in the wadtools forlder
5. I overwrite the 00000001.APP with the one I previously extracted from a ios249 (ios36r7)
6. I run wadpacker title.tik title.tmd title.cert ciosXX.wad
7. me happy.. I have my iosXX.wad and my ciosXX.wad

but I also have a version of the ciosXX.wad from CIOSCORP link.. so I decided to compare them..
the filesize is identicle.. so great..
but then a simple file comparison show a bunch of difference...
can I therefore trust my procedure ???

thank you for any comment.

If you modify 1 bit inside a .wad or .iso, you need to trucha sign it or else it's not signed at all. I guess the tool you used does it automatically.

ahh, i see, the reason i asked is that the new .2 of tf wad packer you have the option to not trucha sign
