Ok, this worked perfect as I was expecting. I have System Menu patched to IOS249 and installed. I used Any Title Deleter to remove IOS37. I then used WiiPower's Multi-cIOS-Installer 0.31 and installed cIOS37 using dip module 7 as IOS37. So when I use a Rock Band backup DVD, Disc Channel uses IOS249 to display ICON/Banner then when I launch it the game kick in using the cIOS37 i installed. Loads like an original from Disc Channel and USB instruments enabled. So Rock Band compatability without taking too much risk with IOS patching. If you use multi-cios-installer tripple check your setting before you apply it.... you wouldn't want to overwrite your IOS249 with the wrong thing accidently if your System Menu is using 249.

I was going to use multi-cios-installer to install cios36dip7 as ios35. Attempting to overwrite the IOS35 i got the error meaning i would need to remove the IOS35 with any title deleter first to install the new cios. However before i did so when i hit Home to exit Homebrew Channel i noticed it displays IOS35 in the top right corner at the exit screen. So Im guessing if i remove IOS35 with A.T.D. then I can't launch Homebrew Channel till I get an IOS35 back. Which I could do by using TP hack and putting multi-cios.installer's .dol in the SD root but I really didn't want to go to that trouble. Am i correct that I should change IOS35 via a WAD install rather than delete it first. I'm thinking the wad install of a cIOS35 would overwrite the existing IOS35 without it being deleted first. My main concern though is that Homebrew Channel needs IOS35 so I don't want to delete it till Im sure I can get it back on alright.

Edit: I went ahead and removed IOS35 with ATD then installed cIOS36 in it's place running M-C-I from SD using TP Hack. I have to say I like this method a lot compared to the other options out there. Don't know if this was mentioned already, but You only get Icon/Banner displayed in Disc Channel if the games are your Wii's Region. None of the PAL 1:1 copies display ICON in Disc Channel on my NTSC machine. All of the NTSC 1:1 copies do display correctly. I've now got cIOS at 33,34,35,36 and 37. Haven't come across any real problems after running about 40 games through bootup. I believe I'll probably change 31,21 and maybe a few others when i get the cIOS installer that will go below 33.

This kind of stuff is what has made the Wii so much fun for the past year. The games not so much but all the hacking discoveries and coding have kept the machine fresh.

Yea, I guess I am where you are Jizmo, so now I guess I wait until someone wakes up to let me try the multi-cios for the lower ones...

yes all IOS's are universal accept the system menu wads

Update- Well I have tested Ethers Multi CIOS on the Lower IOS's now and it works great, Using this program you shouldn't need to find any of the wads, and patch Just use his program to install all the wiis IOS's it works great, But i recommend Installing the IOS30 Patched by hand cause if you loose you internet connection on installing that one, You would be Bricked, but thats just my advice, you'll just have to wait until he releases it. and give you easy instructions on how to use it does require Wifi though

All PatchMii Clones don't allow to install a cIOS to IOS30!, most of them get into an infinite loop if you try, before the installation starts. That's a security check. The latest version of my multi_cios_installer(0.31) lets you return to the HBC if you selected IOS30(or IOS50). There's already somebody who bricked his Wii with this, as he deleted IOS30 and then tried to install it. Just use something else than the multi_cios_installer to patch IOS30

Thats ok has i've already made a IOS30patched and IOS50patched by hand, all you would have to do is install by Wad which has already been tested,
The rest of the CIOS's can be installed by Ethers Multi CIOS installer
and see I looked at the Source of the Org Multi CIOS Installer and have seen there was a block on it, For some reason they blocked that IOS30 on purpose

Wiiblaster I love how you worded that "for some reason they blocked that IOS30 on purpose"
For those that truly don't understand why, its because the system menu uses IOS30 to run and changing that could result in bricks. Personally I'm glad they had the foresight to put that limit in so the unknowledgeable don't accidentally brick.

Ether will prolly release the modded multi cios installer when he gets on today. I still advise against this for the reasons wiigator listed earlier. For anyone unsure DO NOT do this as it is still very new and could have some unseen consequences.

Amazing progress guys.

Anyone with sucess on this willing to spend a few mins to summarize the process?

I've got a donor Wii thats completely un-modified and I'd like to give it a shot

read through the thread and follow the instruction here, or wait for ether to post the modified cios installer. I'd wait on the modded installer otherwise you have to manually patch each ios on your system

Basic Summory:
for NTSC machine.....

1: You Patch a SystemMenu3.2U.wad to use IOS249 instead of IOS30. Utility to patch is in First Post.
This makes the Icon/Banner show up in Disc Channel for 1:1 backups that match your region. Decrypted and out of region disks do not display icon/banner.
From this point you can also launch and run games if the ISO was patched to IOS249 such as Red Steel, Mortal Kombat etc...

2. Now that the games show up in Disc Channel without need to use Menu Patcher or Rebooter you just need IOS's in place that can run backups.
Now use WiiPower's Multi-cIOS-Installer 0.31 (or similar) to install a cIOS in place of N's official IOS. A fairly safe and fun place to start is IOS37 because with
it you are getting Rock Band USB instrument compatibility. So install cIOS37 dip7 as IOS37. You may have to use Any Title Deleter to remove IOS37 before you
install the cIOS37 i it's place. Pop in the Rock Band backup of your region and launch from disc channel and play. BE VERY CAREFUL AND TRIPLE CHECK your
settings when installing IOS. This is not a hack for Newbies to be playing with right now.

3. Once you've got the first cIOS working properly you can just repeat procedure for the other IOS used by games. 21,31,33,34,35,36 etc.... I replaced 31-36 with cIOS36 dip 7. Be aware that if you want to change IOS35 using MCI you can't just overwrite it. You have remove it with ATD first and this will render Homebrew Channel unable to launch until IOS35 is back on machine. To do this I booted MCI as boot.dol from SD card using twilight hack. After that Homebrew Channel functionality
is restored and you now can boot games that use IOS35 directly from disck channel. WiiBlaster made a list of the IOS used by games in an earlier post.

That's the basics of beast. Exciting stuff for us old fart old school hackers.

Here is link to WiiPower's Multi-CIOS-Installer 0.31, this version only lets you install IOS between 33-255. Ether's version will let you install to lower numbered IOS.

Edit: WOOOHOOOOO post 100

Just a small note... the system menu shouldn't need to be patched to 249 to do this. Patching ios30 with the rev7 will do the same thing as patching the menu over to 249.... just thought id note that as it is an unnecessary step. Also if you do it this way your starfall can remain installed throughout the process, no need to patch to 249 then reinstall it.
and again i advise AGAINST this unless your are POSITIVE you know what you are doing, as bricking this way will render your console junk, and as this is very new it may be awhile (if ever) before a recovery from this is possible.

first of all i have to say amazing job everyone that has been testing and figuring out all of this A++

i was wondering if someone could pm me cIOS rev7 and whatever patched IOS they have i would appreciate it very much

Thank you

Is it just me, or do originals load at 3x too now?
maybe i'm just paranoid.
I mean it shouldn't right? The DVD drive is the one that chooses what speed to play dvd's at depending on the media?

I'm honestly not sure about the 3x versus 6x issue. i can't remember what wiigator said in reference to that. I almost think with us modding all the IOS's that they could end up playing at 3x. But again im not positive, i forget if the dip module used differentiates between the two or is just invoked when a regular dvd is inserted. Another side question if the wii discs are just DVD's, what is different that makes them recognized as a wii disc... is it something as simple as a different booktype? if so we could theoretically come up with a way to booktype to that and have full speed backup, without the need for any loaders or IOS, but im sure if it was that simple it would have been done long ago.

So who knows how to make the Disc Channel region free. Permanently. I don't like that only NTSC titles work as more than half of my backups are PAL. GeckOS code injected into disc channel or something like that. I guess what I'm not clear on is what exactly the disc channel is. Is it it's own channel or is it part of System Menu? It just seems that now since we're at the point of changing things at the IOS/System level that putting the rebooter code into the operating system nand would be a simple thing. (for the people with the skills that is)

Also note that If you run rebooter without setting any options, just using it to enable region free on the disc channel, when you launch the game it uses the game's region not the Wii's region. But that's old news.

Edit: Interesting thing happend on the way to the forum.....

Going through my backup collection and inserting them all into Wii to get results of how Disc Channel acts, at around backup #60 I inserted Mariio & Sonic Olympics PAL 1:1 and Voila! It unexpectedly displayed in the disc channel. This was the first of about 30 PAL games I had inserted that showed up. I went ahead and booted it with Gamma just to make sure and the Game ID was indeed PAL as 4th digit was P so it wasn't just a region patched game. So im gonna run the other Hundred or so Discs through and see if any other PAL titles appear in Disc Channel for me.

Wiigator told us how to permanently enable the use of ios249 for all games via the disc channel, it involves patching the system menu, im sure if someone asked nicely hed tell us the lines to change to permanently enable region free. I think the disc channel may be a part of the system menu because of this. The feature i want for the system menu is the ability to force a video mode regardless of disc, so those stuck with tv's that can't run pal or ntsc will be able to play these games, and reduce the number of posts that start with... Game x just goes to a green/black screen, or game x is red tinted, or black and white. Also doesn't starfall enable region free gaming anyway? I don't have any out of region originals so i don't know if it works or not.

Region free wouldn't be as easy as some people here might think. If there's a way to run the games with their region from the disc channel, you should take it. For now there isn't even a way to force your video mode when using a loader, how do you think the code from the disc channel could be modified to do that? I know you can force your video mode, but it does only work for half of the games, because half of the games don't contain code for your video mode.

@the people who patched their system menu / IOS used by the system menu:
In which state was your wii before you did it and what did you do(system menu patch or IOS patch)? I mean, if you overwrite your system menu, it's important to know which firmware version you had before and if you had starfall installed and with which options. I think if you try this with 3.3 or 3.4 this might have some bad unforseen side effects. Before you puplish a guide or howto you should think about that, and maybe make 3.2 a requirement. I mean a real 3.2 system and not some half downgraded whatever i have seen a few times here.

I was on 3.2, Starfall installed and cIOS249 r7 installed.
I only patched the IOS though, not the system menu.
I think that anybody who wishes to do any sort of homebrewing should downgrade to 3.2, its like going from Vista to XP.

I havn't tried backup out of region games, though my orignal out of region works (due to starfall).
But wouldn't a mix of starfall and cIOS allow you to play out of region backups?

Oh and if it makes any difference I'm PAL, so 3.2E

I guess I was assuming wrong that people had read the thread. Silly of me.

Yes I do believe that all of us that have been laying with this are doing so on 3.2U machines with Starfall.
My setup at the start of this patching....

NTSC - USA Wii
3.2U System Menu
Waninkoko's cIOS Rev7 installed as IOS249 (am i correct in assuming this is the same as the cIOS36 dip 7 from multi-cios-installer?)
All starfall options Enabled except GC Region Free

Fairly standard setup for this crazy bunch that likes to be testers.

Current Setup after the patching.....
3.2U System Menu Patched to IOS249 instead of IOS30 (you have to reinstall starfall after changing the system menu)
cIOS36 dip 7 installed at/as IOS 33,34,35,36
cIOS37 dip 7 installed at/as IOS 37
Waninkoko's cIOS Rev 7 installed as IOS249 (am i correct in assuming this is the same as the cIOS36 dip 7 from multi-cios-installer?)
All starfall options Enabled except GC Region Free
with this setup All system region games using IOS249,33,34,35,36,37 launch from disc channel with no post boot patching.
Gamma, Softchip, Menu Patcher, Rebooter etc....... all seem to work as normal. I haven't come across any adverse side effects.

I am still puzzled by the single PAL game that shows up in disc channel. Mario & Sonic @ Olympics PAL 1:1 I'm wondering what's different about it than all the other PAL backups. Maybe I'll find another PAL title that is recognized properly.
