I'm trying to work out if it's been confirmed that Rei will be implementing a similar function to SX OS's primary function (playing 'backups'). I guess I'll keep waiting for now.
from what i last saw his custom firmware is nothing but a proof of concept right now so it may not be released for a very long time but i could be completely wrong

He implied recently that he was "95% done", but in regards to what, it is unknown. Doubtful it is the whole package, probably a good POC of EmuNAND.

I think Rei is working on sigpatching for ReiNX.

Yeah I'm waiting until Pokemon and Smash to tally up the choices, so I'll for sure just wait and hope some of these concepts become reality or just dish out for SX OS otherwise.

So what exactly is sigpatching? Changing the signature tied to a game?

Sigpatching means being able to run any installed game without verifying a correct key, the key thing is to verify whether or not the installed title is legit or not.
Sigpatching basically means Patching the signature checks that the console has in place to enable any title to run, despite it not being legit.

So basically what SX OS does with the backups?

Not quite.
SX does something different. It mimics a cartridge in the cartridge slot, while sigpatching is disabling signature checks to allow for any kind of software to be installed, regardless of legitimacy.

not quite, sx os supports actual game dumps (xci) running directly off the sd card.
so you could dump your actual games onto the sd card if you wanted and play them straight away.

Oh ok it definitely sounds better than what SX OS does then. So does that theoretically let you play backups in a different way then?

SX OS Have two methods for backup loading:
-Cartridge Emulation (Best way to play backups tbh)
-Installing .nsp

The second one needs Signature Patching.

So say I took a backup of my carts, guess I can't play the backups using sigpatches?

Dude you are totally missing the point...
You don’t know what is a sigpatch

To do the ELI5: sigpatch is like bypassing the certificate verification for installed .nsp files

If you still don’t understand ask someone that have better teaching skills than me

Gotcha, but a backup is XCI and the file format required to be installed in devmenu is .nsp, therefore the correct answer would've been no, wouldn't it?
