I want to put a modchip in my v1 switch that is on firmware v18.1.0. I was looking at the PicoFly. Is there anyone that are more recommend or are they all basically the same?

Thanks

To my knowledge picofly uses a rp2040
Thanks for clarification, that was my understanding too.

In fairness the information on boards etc is spotty and inconsistent so can see why there are differing views/understandings.

Ok fair, i always assumed the rp2040 was the picofly and the hwfly was a different board
That is correct.
The name 'picofly' is just the nickname for any modchip that uses the rp2040.
The rp2040 is just a specific version of the raspberry Pi.
One can use a generic RP2040 board made by Raspberry themselves or Waveshare.
Or save a $1 and get a crappy knock-off version that will give you a lot of weird problems.
But there are also a bunch of custom boards which also come with a rp2040 chip but come with all the ribbon cables to make the installation even easier.

The HWFly was just a copy of the SXCore modchip from TeamXcuter after Bowser got thrown in jail.
The Hwfly has another microcontroller and an FPGA chip.
The HWFly works better in some rare cases with newer consoles like the OLED.

But with a v1 a picofly should work fine.
Only install it yourself if you have experience with microsoldering because things are very small an tiny.
In case of doubt, put up an extra $50 and get it done by a skilled engineer,

⁇ But if it is possible to use the Hwfly on a v1 console? And would that be a good option?
