I mean if I can switch to jailbroken version and then use emulators and tools then switch to standard and play online games that I've bought legally.
Yes. Create an emuMMC. Sysnand is clean for onlineplay and emummc is for all hackery stuff ;)

Hi Gents,

I've just bought Switch with Atmosphere loaded by the previous owner. Sadly I don't know what's the Atmosphere version.

At this point I'm wondering:

1. how can check the version? After that, I plan to go along with the instructions from nh-serve to update it to the latest version
2. I've heard that CFW may unload when console restart - is that true? How to install it permanently like CFW for mobile phones?
3. Is the Atmosphere a good solution for me to use or would you propose other CFWs?
4. How can I create NAND backup at this point if I accidentally brick my Switch?
5. How can I check if my console is banned/super-banned?
6. Is there a way for me to play online in OFW and then switch to CFW? I've bought 400gb card so I think it should fill all of it?

Anything specific I definitely shouldn't do? Tomorrow I'm going to receive the package and want to play with my roommate :)

Thanks ;)
So if I'll do emuMMC can I stay 100% safe?
You are never to 100% safe.

There will be no logs in Sysnand?
As long as you don't boot a cfw in sysnand yes.

1. how can check the version? After that, I plan to go along with the instructions from nh-serve to update it to the latest version
System settings. Under the firmware version. S for sysnand, E for emuMMC

2. I've heard that CFW may unload when console restart - is that true? How to install it permanently like CFW for mobile phones?
The cfw "stays" on the console when you reboot it. Injecting a payload is only required when you do a coldboot. And no permanent is not possible because fusée gelée is a bootrom exploit (bootrom=read only memory. We can't write payloads to it)

3. Is the Atmosphere a good solution for me to use or would you propose other CFWs?
Atmosphère is the cfw with the fastest support for newer firmwares. So, yes. Use atmosphere and you're good to go.

4. How can I create NAND backup at this point if I accidentally brick my Switch?
Hekate.

5. How can I check if my console is banned/super-banned?
Start the eshop. A super ban is bullshit. A ban is a ban. Nothing more or less.

6. Is there a way for me to play online in OFW and then switch to CFW? I've bought 400gb card so I think it should fill all of it?
emuMMC

Hello Guys,

since Animal Crossing is being released, I want to play online with my switch. I just kept my switch offline at all times, but I installed different NSPs, ran emulators and so on. Is it still possible, to create a "clean" SysNAND for playing online and an additional emuNAND for backups? Of course I am going to buy a physical copy of Animal Crossing to play online.

I have an old NAND backup (I dont know which system version; I have updated in the meantime my current system). Maybe I can restore that, update it and then create an additional emuNAND?

Which is the "safest" way to go?

Thanks in advance!

Hello I got a question, Im playing AC in my emunand atmosphere but I will buy it digital in the release date. I wanted to know if i can transfer my save data of emunand to the Sysnand and if this is risk of ban or its ok because I will play it online.

no, don't spread false information
Then please. Give a better solution? I wait...

You will risk a ban

A copy of the NAND is stored on the actual partition which includes BOOT0, BOOT1, and the eMMC raw GPP which is further divided into eMMC SYS and USER. If you're familiar with how sysMMC works, eMMC USER is the partition where you install games and other content to internal memory. The emuMMC folder contains instructions on how the emuMMC operates including which Nintendo folder to use for emuMMC. The Nintendo folder's role is to hold games and other content installed to the SD card.

  1. Yes
  2. Yes and yes
  3. Entering RCM and sending a payload via USB. AutoRCM can alleviate the first step but the only way to automate payload sending is to install a modchip

Hi! Thank you so much for your help. If it’s alright can I ask a few more questions? I’ll try to keep it in list format so it’s easier to respond to.

•If I update my OFW will my CFW on emuNAND be
affected?

•I have a preload animal crossing on my switch right now legit from the eshop, but it’s on my SD card. If I format my SD card for homebrew and go through with the process tonight, will i be able to download the preload of acnh again to my sd card afterward?

•I heard when you format the SD Card as FAT32 you can’t install NSPs over 4gb unless you use Goldtree. My question is when you use goldtree do the NSPs save to your sysnand or sd card?

Sorry for asking so much, I really want to avoid messing this up. Thank you all for your help

  • You have to be more specific in your question. OFW and CFW can refer to either emuMMC or sysMMC
  • Yes
  • Yes and no. You cannot put files larger than 4 GB onto your SD card using FAT32 but you can install files larger than 4 GB using USB or wireless install. And you choose where to install the .NSP files before the installation process begins

Oh okay thank you!! That helps a lot actually. I guess what I meant with that first question was: “If I updated my OFW on my SysNand will my CFW on my EmuNand be affected?” I don’t know if I’m conceptualizing this right

sysMMC and emuMMC do not share anything except the hardware they are ran on.

Wow, thanks! This forum’s pretty majorly cleared all my doubts as of now. One final thing before I actually do it... Does it matter if I use Kosmos or Atmosphere? My basic understanding is that Kosmos is a more user-friendly bundle of Atmosphere + useful tools I might use. If a new version of Atmosphere releases is there a way to update my onboard version of Atmosphere? Or is using Kosmos considered its own CFW of sorts?

While the official difference is the bundling of a few homebrew applications, the real difference between Kosmos and Atmosphere is the bootloader, or payload, used. Kosmos uses Hekate while Atmosphere uses Fusee. Hekate is better than Fusee as all Fusee does is boot Atmosphere while Hekate functions also as a toolkit full of nifty little features and options. Either one is fine but I only recommend Kosmos because it comes pre-bundled with Hekate.

Oh okay, gotcha! Thanks for ELI5ing this so well. Excited to finally be able to do this

Sorry I’m already back here. I’m downloading my SD Setup right now and just read something that sort of confuses me. I realized that I initially had the wrong idea of what sysNAND and emuMMC are; now I understand after reading the guide more thoroughly.

I get most of my games legit from the eShop and still plan to do so in the future except with a little piracy sprinkled in here and there, being the broke college student I am. The games that I buy legit usually go into my microSD card. If my emuMMC is running off of the microSD Card, can I still install legit games from the eShop to the microSD Card? I think I may have unrealistic expectations of what I’m able to do and I’d appreciate if someone could fact check what’s in my head.

The Vision I Have in My Mind:
•I can boot into either unmodified Switch OS or my CFW on emuMMC.
•I can buy, download (onto my microSD), play, and go online legit eShop games when I boot into unmodified Switch OS.
•I can boot into my CFW on emuMMC and play my pirated games and emulators.

Are all three of these things possible?

yes that's possible, just keep the emuMMC offline or else you will get banned

Ahh okay, got it! So just to clarify, as long as I keep emuMMC offline, I won’t need to install anything else to be able to download normal games to SD without the risk of a ban?

So Sword and Shield got an update last night and as many are well aware you can't trade with out updated software. Is there a way to update on emummc?
