I edited my post, but thats actually a kinda good idea to check, but I have none... I see lot of people now with tablet-like-laptops and they bring onboard memory, maybe they are actually just emmc inside.

I have a few broken laptops, but they are all sata based only. But if I ever get my hands one one of those built-in memory laptops I would check it ;).

can you just buy a emmc ssd

I skip that 4 someone else :). I don't have money to burn to then find out it might not be compatible. Now if someone finds a very cheap Emmc SSD with like 256GB single memory in it and would be compatible, would be awesome news 4 everyone :grog:.

EDIT: But I also heard some company is making a new Micro-SD like with 512GB+ as Emmc with a built in controller and speeds around a normal SSD, but I bet would be imcompatible with Switch m-SD slot as its not even UHS-3 for the faster ones and most likely will probably be a different slot even from UHS-3 ;).

i just rellized somthing, i have a upgraded chromebook with a 64gb ssd the chip lloks the same size

160 wasnt really bad. Id pay for that. Have trusted friend of mine do the swap. Someone needs to sell them on ebay once they are kinda available.
How long do you think untill they are readily available.

Depends really, assuming you're wanting them to the US, with the trade tariffs and such going on, I'm unsure. Generally consumer small quantity sales start cropping up about a year or so after mass production begins. In this specific instance, well, Samsung has been doing some market scummery on their prices, artificially restricting supplies, etc. That and the tariffs well, it throws everything up in the air a bit. Makes it hard to bring a product to market for reasonable prices when you've got trade wars happening.

As to people wondering about cannibalising from other devices, it's unlikely to work. The memory in your phone or SSD isn't guaranteed to be the same, as EMMC is a specific technology of memory. Think of it like trying to plug an old IDE drive into a USB port or trying to plug a VHS tape into a CD player. The interface isn't 1:1. Just because it does the same function doesn't mean the interface is the same. EMMC integrates both the storage and controller into the one chip. If your phone does that or not, I have no idea, I'm not an expert on cell phones honestly.

You can read more about EMMC at datalight's website with the following addition after the com: /solutions/technologies/emmc/comparing-emmc-to-other-flash-media
(Looks like me being a new user prevents me from posting links? So uhh, yeah, sorry for the roundabout way of giving you the link.)

The good news is that EMMC is standardised, so in theory so long as you're using an EMMC on the same EMMC version and form factory that Nintendo uses, it should work. Not that there's too many manufacturers to choose from really.

The big issue with using EMMCs from other products boils down to the different revisions of EMMC standards could lead to you having maybe more storage but much, much slower storage access speeds at best, and outright causing crashes or bricking at worst because the Switch might rely on features from the later revisions. If I'm right and the Switch uses the 5.0+ EMMCs then there's a potential for a good many problems arising.

It'd be best as I said previously to buy the 32GB replacement memory boards that are sold as replacement parts for the switch and just modify those if anyone is curious to try non-known good models of EMMC. I'd personally love to see more data collected on the subject.

An EMMC upgrade is unfortunately on my personal backburner since the grunt work has been done by the OP to provide proof of concept. I'll see where I am in a few weeks since I'm working on a more extensive hardware mod currently, but if I have the time to allocate I'll order a couple of different EMMCs and some replacement boards and get a good idea of what's up.

Ok, I made this modification and got a problem with atmosphere boot. fusee-secondary do not want boot with extended NAND size

Solution was founded by roblâbla from ReSwiched's discord.
I have compiled fusee-secondary with changes and all start to works without issues. You can download binary here - https://github.com/rashevskyv/Atmosphere/releases/tag/fs-nand_expanded

@xHR do you by any chance know if other CFW's would have the same problem? (Hekate, SX)
Though, Atmosphere is more of a true and fully custom CFW, but still.

Also, has anyone, perhaps @Canna, figured out how this unique chip ID can be changed?
Hey now i was going to do this, and even work on a solution for a dual boot nand, two chips on one special module....
But i was told that you cannot just simply replace the chip as the chip has a unique id and that needs to be patched into the system... or spoofed

Could you tell me more on how you patched or modded the code/software to run such a chip thanks...

I have tried only Atmosphere. It is more than enought for me

I understand, and, you're right. I mean, grab the pitchforkes amiright?

But I thought I could ask, for the community. If you could find in you, or the time, to boot up Hekate CFW and check, that'd be a huge thing for people following your footsteps.

My switch nand borked. Can i buy the nand that is already in a module, from china, and replace the nand module and follow raj's superb guide to rebuilt the new nand, then boot with atmosphere and it will work? If OFW wont work, at least it will work on Atmos's CFW?

Atmosphere works great with the upgraded nands, both 128GB and 256GB working great. Ofw works with them as well, I have an friend that wants sxos on it so I been trying to get it to work but only get black screens XD 2.6.1 beta of sxos that is. A 256GB Emunand takes about 16hrs to create btw ;(

Can you give links to the 128 and 256 nand, I have a spare nand board, skills, rework station, just stuck at the purchasing the correct nand to fit the board.

Yes eBay have them, if you have a backup of your nand then you should be ok, fit new nand, boot in rcm and restore nand!

Largest I have seen is a 256GB emmc made by Samsung, KLMEG8UCTA-B041, but it seems hard to source unless you live in Shenzhen.
There are few:
SDINBDA4-256G
H26T99001MCR
KLMEG8UCTA-B041
KLMEG8UERM-C041

All are BGA153 emmc, it seems that as long as the emmc is BGA153, it will be compatible, but I could be wrong.

And for the 256GB :
https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?sp...ssCOy&id=589073900134&ns=1&abbucket=18#detail
About USD52 without shipping.
I can get it shipped to me for about USD5, but I don't have the expertise to solder such delicate SMD chip.

SDINBDA4-256G is what I’m using but I’m going through an supplier. And yes reflow smt soldering isn’t for everyone. Still doing a lot of QC making sure I’m not getting any fakes. I’m using and did get the stable build to work for sxos. I totally prefer Kosmos but hey people want what they want. I’m currently waiting on my next batch before I stock my esty store again. Local sales are killing it. But hey people actually know me where I live XD

I would love to get a compatibility chart made up for others, maybe they wouldn’t have wasted money like me on 2 128GB SDIN8CE4 from eBay... didn’t help that they where bga 169xD but I do have a nice diy 128GB flash drive now

Just waiting on shipping for a (KLMDGAGEAC-b001) 128GB, looking forward to upgrading my system nand :)

Did anyone found a 256GB EMMC which can ordered from europe? I found one on Aliexpress.com but ist will cost 200$ USD.

I had trouble getting emmcs myself and I’m in USA but not so anymore XD but 200 usd just for the ic itself is crazy, I charge $225 for an already reflowed 256GB emmc module and $175 for the 128GB.
