There has been a lot of talk lately about the quality of the Switch 2 screen, with some people saying it's terrible while others think it looks better than the Switch OLED. Well, while looks can be subjective, the performance is more easily measured and it's bad news...

TL;DW - The Switch 2 panel is 50% slower than the original Switch LCD and around 5x slower than an average IPS computer monitor.

Yeah, im more and more ready to return my switch 2 (amazon)

I played mario kart (cardridge, so i can return it too), all the other big games are finished on the switch 1 or PC

The scene is also not as open as on the switch 1.

Maybe i will get the Switch 2 OLED if they fix the battery and display, while we should get some better games by then too in 2027 or whatever. I can wait for something interesting and add DK and the new Pokemon to my "play in the future" list

Personally, I like the NS2 screen quality even though it's not an OLED. It's a vast improvement over the original NS1 screen.

Not too fussed tbh cos I have a Switch 2 for Nintendo exclusives and they'll be made with this in mind. Anything cross platform I'll be playing on the PC or Playstation. Plus I will rarely use handheld mode anyway.

I can understand why it would bother some people though, after-all, we each have our own reasons and use cases for owning a Switch 2

Been playing portably and I haven't noticed many issues, thus far. The ghosting and input latency might be a tad distracting if I keep it in mind a little, but when I'm actually playing games, I don't notice them and just play like normal, which I'm sure a large of majority of casuals would feel.

Slow news day, eh?

This issue could easily be fix with a firmware update that enable the overdrive mode. However, this option will be available for those with an active Nintendo online expansion pack only. Please look forward to it. :switch2:

The switch v1 had a bad screen at launch. Even compared to the market 8 years ago it was a bad screen. Comparing it to the oled, the only thing it improves is resolution.

The switch 2 is out for almost three weeks and i didnt read a single complaint about frame/response-times on the LCD screen from the switch 2 before today. Except the "Why isnt in an OLED" Slop.

Now theres a video and suddenly everyones talking about how bad it is. As if they noticed anything before.

I've been playing Mario Kart World and TOTK for weeks on and off docked and handheld and havent once felt any input lag in single or multiplayer.

People think they're more knowledgeable than a multi billion dollar company like nintendo as if they didnt extensively test whats working well and what isnt.

I saw threads on reddit almost day 1, but you probably don't noticed because you don't care, which is good, more power to you.
But this is a nerdy forum and people were probably expecting more. Even this new youtube video is for nerds, and in that regard, it is dissapointing.
Even the NS1 was super dissapointing and i hated that screen, but it still sold well. But it's not wrong to wish for more.
Some people genuinely can't tell a difference between things like 30 vs 60 fps. But for those that can, it's a pain point.

Some people are very sensitive to ghosting and to them the screen is a blurry mess. Count yourself lucky if you can't even notice it.

Personally, I'm not remotely surprised Nintendo chose a panel with subpar performance. There's no way they would've sold the Switch 2 for £400 with a half decent screen. It's going to be interesting when it comes to mid-gen refresh time and they have to consider the OLED options. Perhaps HDR will actually be usable then.

Come on, we know about these issues from a few reputable sources like for 10+ days now...

Aren't most handheld screens like this? I wouldn't say that's a very smart comparison.

It's like saying the Switch 2 is slower than the best -if any- computer gaming setup out there. No objectivity on doing this.

Enjoy playing your 3rd Party Switch 1 games at 22 FPS until maybe 2027 while the rest of humanity ignores the YT Clickbait Clown™ in the OP and enjoys the best portable console ever made with the best software library at launch.

How bad is it compared to the PSP's screen?

That had a lot of ghosting in my opinion
I don’t have numbers but I remember the psp being worse, but it’s somewhat excused given the age and the year it came out.
I still had a lot of fun with that console though, it was one of a kind in that period of time.

I barely play portable/handheld anyway since I mostly use my Switch for livestreams.. Picking up my NS2 before the weekend.
I honestly would prefer if they made a "docked-only" variant that cut back some of the costs for cases like my own, I'm not huge on the gimmick. Whenever I go out anywhere, the last thing I usually want to do/have time for is sitting down and playing games.

If the switch 2 works without the screen attached, you could probably sell that for parts. Maybe even the speakers. Given the age of the ns2, the market is probably scarce with parts for repair. It’s not the brightest idea but if you wanted to recoup some of the cost, this was the only way I knew how.

My plan for recouping is selling my Switch OLED lol. Not a terrible idea you have, but not one I'm interested in.
