My fellow high seas adventurers. Once Switch 2 emulation is available, what are your plans?

I think I'll go half and half.

- Meaning buy a mini-PC just powerful enough to play Switch 2 games

- ONLY buying Nintendo game cards USED (cause fuck Nintendo) since (at the moment they're guaranteed to have the full game

- icing on the cake, the whole Switch 2 to Switch 1 game streaming would be nice if the emulator can support it

- also icing, if someone makes a USB card reader, I would love to run Switch 2 games via that like a real console.

Thoughts?

the morally correct option: merclessly shit on those people for allowing the same mistakes for Switch 1 emulation and being stupid enough to continue giving the company the claim to not like attention untll they stop entirely.

Nobody said Switch 2 emulation will be here before year's end. It's a process. That said, I'm sure there are plenty of people that will make an attempt at one just to spite Nintendo. That's the battle I'm eagerly waiting to see.

You should turn your expectations down a little. It could take years until anyone even gains access to the console and, more importantly, its encryption keys.
My expectations are properly set. I have an entire backlog of games to keep me busy. I'm just trying to have a fun conversation. I'm not expecting magic here.

i wanna preface what i'm about to say with this: i don't mean to be mean-spirited when i say this, i'm just trying to explain

there are barriers to emulating the switch 2 that we have no functional way of crossing
like, not that it'll be hard, or that it'll take time
i mean it's simply unlikely to happen for a very, very long time (i won't say never, there is no never with console hacking)
the original nintendo switch had a hardware exploit in it that was a holdover from its origins as a screwed up android tablet
we were able to access the entire console from the very first year and we achieved a decent level of emulation in around 2020-2021 i would say, (you might say sooner, idk) and that was in a freak generation where we could do everything, and the power of the system was lower and the architecture was already partially understood and sciresm exists

ps3 emulation was unplayable until 2017. xbox 360 is only just now becoming viable.
you genuinely might be holding a switch 3 in your hands before switch 2 has playable emulation, or even a switch 4
and i say playable. not good, not feature complete, not in parity with hardware. playable.
you say your expectations are set, but if they were, this thread simply would not exist

Since I'm not going to live to be 100 years old, I don't have plans for what to do when Switch 2 emulation is available. Some of you seem to have taken that for granted, like it is just a matter of time, perhaps even a matter of just a year or so. Dream on. No one is hacking this console any time soon, and without that, no one is writing a emulator. And it takes years for emulators to get to a point where you can actually play a single glitch-free game. And lastly, no current mini-PC is going to be powerful enough to emulate the Switch 2, even if there was an emulator.

I'm really excited for the new Donkey Kong but I'm absolutely not spending $80 on it. Ideally the switch 2 gets hacked and a decent emulator comes out 2-3 years down the line and I play it on that. Other than that I'm planning to buy a switch 2 if i can find it on sale (fat chance) or get a used/refurbished one that's marked down significantly. Maybe if they make a lite version I'll get that? Idk, waiting to see what hacks come out in the following year before I make a decision.

Only a person with insufficient neurons likes to annoy Nintendo, not even the moders want to mess with them.

My emulation plan? So glad you asked... :D

1) pester chatgpt until it writes me a fully functioning switch 2 and 3 emulator.
2) tease its existence on gbatemp to sow division, which is better for popularity
3) give out crumbs for free ('this one only emulates the welcome tour'), then charge money for the product while giving a few pennies to chatgpt because y'know... Capitalism
4) fork it a few times under different names and ghost users to beat actual hackers to the punch.
5) sell the product to Nintendo for even more money
6) release the source code to screw over Nintendo
7) perhaps actually emulate something
