In case somebody is interested, I tried to change the USB interface for my Wii U keeping the same storage media, to see if it will still be recognized by the console.
I am using an SD card + USB reader. I believe the HDD + enclosure result will be the same.
Result : Wii U recognized my storage without issues (i.e. both USB readers work with the same card)
