Gaming surprisingly awesome games?

Peggle? Are you guys serious?

When I got my new comp, the technician was kind enough to give me a folder called "Games for the Bored". I opened it and was blessed with the gift of peggle. My friend came over, played it and got it too. His girlfriend saw it at his house, and got it too. Suddenly, all of my school was playing it - whether on the PC, cellphone or iTouch... When I heard it came for the DS I was so happy....

Seriously, you never heard of it before?

I have a couple that I found surprisingly great (to me)-

- Crash of the Titans: I'm a fan of classic Crash Bandicoot games from the PS1 era. The DS version came as a surprise. I expected something crappy, but got a classic style game with some really nice graphics. It has one huge flaw though- short as shit. I can beat the game in under 4 hours. It's only got 4 main worlds with 2 levels and a boss each. There is a final level, but it's just one level and a boss. Underwhelming to say the least. If it were longer, it would have been much more awesome.

- Giana Sisters DS: This game has been out in Europe for a little while now, but has a US released planned sometime. It was originally a very blatant cloned that ripped off Super Mario Bros on NES designed for systems like Amiga and Commodore. Quite fun on its own. Now it has sort of a retooling on the DS, and is completely different. But it's actually quite a great platformer. It's a little easy compared to Mario, but it has a lot of heart. It has some nice 2D pixel art as well that reminds me of Cave Story a little. If you want a nice little traditional platformer that emulates Mario, you might like it. In some ways, it's actually better than New Super Mario Bros.

-Megaman Starforce 3: The Starforce series is kind of mediocre, until the 3rd game, which I personally believe is much better than the first 2. I don't even quite know why, but one reason is that you can just jack into wave form at will without wave holes, and just expands the series nicely. I still like the old Battle Network battle system, but SF3 really gave me hope for Megaman RPG's. It's not a bad little game at all, despite being a little childish.

-Pac n Roll: reminds me a little of Katamari, without the world enveloping parts. You roll pacman around levels using a trackball like control. It's quite nice, and one of the first DS game IIRC. I find it forgotten and underrated.

Definately TWEWY my very first am i played on my flashcart when i got it and it was awesome
Disgaea
Shin Megami Tensei devil Summoner (just finished it a few hours ago)

I would have to say that a suprising title for me was Spiderman: Web of Shadows and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Both use the same engine are extremely hard but in a good way.

The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road
I was only getting it for the touch screen controls... But as soon as I turned it on and heard that opener song that had a tribute to both Over the Rainbow and one song from the musical "Wicked", I was hooked!

Jam Sessions
I only got this for the fact that a real guitar was way too much for me to afford, but this is actually a great substitute! It doesn't have more than chord playing, but it's a great game. I love it!

Magnetica
I actually got this game for my mom (she loves games like that), but I found it to be a great game too!

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
I had only played Chain of Memories prior to this game, so I had no clue what to expect. I thought it would be riddled with lag and horrible controls, but I found that this game is quite enjoyable and fun! I could waste hours on it.

Devil Surviour surprised me I replayed that game ever time just to get the multiple endings I was that hooked. Another game that I found surprising was The world ends with you. My friends kept telling me it sucked so I never played it then picked it up and thought hmm this is interesting and I'm still playing it now.

For me it was:

Space Invaders Extreme 1 and 2 for DS. I'm not a huge fan of all old school games, I actually got this for my mom and decided to try it, now I play it more then she does.

Hotel Dusk 215, I didnt know about trying this but I finally just gave in and decided to try it, and I've been playing it since I got it.

I've brought this up many times but nobody seems to listen:
CIVILIZATION REVOLUTION
Trying to beat a game with every civ on each difficulty winning every possible way is hard.

culdcept is awesome!! thanks to whoever mentioned it in this thread... i applied the translation patch and i am now totally hooked in a bad way. =P

the patch definitely makes it playable, although i wish the translation was slightly more complete. but beggars can't be choosers, right?

If your a classic 8-bit gamer I suggest 'Retro Game Challenge'. The story is of 2 kids playing classic games on an famicom challenging this master of retro games. Its pretty addicting. You get hints and tips reading through magazines you collect by completing challenges.

Crazy Machines 1 and 2. Excelent puzzle, if you liked TIM (The Incredible Machine) on PC.
