I also find ridge racer really fun to kill some time its great ( all though im now addicted to forza 3 on 360

)

Agreed, CRA is really an amazing game.

Loopop Cube - Loop Salad DS . . .
Fairly awesome for such a cutezy game.

It reminds me of BlockDude ( one of the games preloaded on the Ti84 )
But, the whole puzzlepack ripped off every single one of its games.

Pheonix Wright, I thought it would be terrible but I love it.
I have to agree with you there. I approached the series with misgivings but I loved them regardless. They are still a good game to come back to every 6 months or so as it is like reading a book again.

I completely agree with PW. It was amazing. I saw it that a magazine gave a game called Apollo Justice some score of 3, and I got interested. I loved AJ, then I tried all the other ones. Amazing.

Also Cooking Mama. One of my friends said it was kinda weird, but I liked it.

Clash Kings (Japanese Only)
What looks like an ordinary racer is a pretty decent race and crash game.
Its best during the random game modes like car bowling and destruction derby modes.
Japanese menus though so good luck finding it.

Devil Survivor
What seemed like a cruddy anime like game at first turned out to be a pretty nice stradegy RPG with a story that kept me interested. Though I found myself grinding in one spot and not moving forward in the plot, but its still fun and has some cool music. Also I fail to realize that its apart of the same series Persona was apart of, so that explains why some monsters seem familar.

Space Bust-A-Move
While it is just Bust-A-Move, the customization options, tons of modes and online play all make this rather great despite the over the top cute factor that burns my eyes out.

Brick Em All
One of the simple series games.
Just a simple arkanoid like game with many unique game modes and multiplayer in almost all of them.
I keep this on my cart just cause I remember it so well and its such a small filesize.

Rittai Picross (Japanese Only)
3D picross.
I show this game to family and friends and they just don't seem to get it.
I'm still rather confused about what sqaures and circles over a number mean exactly but I still find it addicting fun.
Though I think they could have made the numbering system more classic picross style than making an outright new one but it's stilll plain fun.
I'll probably drop it if theres ever a homebrew clone of it though.

Unknown Soldier (Japanese only)
3rd person shooter with a war theme. A world war I think.
Pretty straight forward, shoot hte bad guys gameplay.
I keep it on my cart incase of a sudden need of good ole shoot everything 3D style gameplay.
Also hiding behind knee high walls and peeking around corners is possible.

Bangai O Spirts....
Its a good shooting style game, but I can't recomend it over the Dreamcast version.
I just can't seem to get used to the controls or the fact theres no real story mode.
But I have to mention it.
It stays on my cart indefinitly due to size and being Bangai-O related.

Monster Jam - Urban Assault
Not at all a bad racer.
Monster trucks, some random racing modes and basic crush everything go fast win first gameplay.
Its not a great racer but it was certainly better than expected.
Some songs can be a tad annoying though and I can't help but think the PSP version is ten times better.
But ya, its better than most other Monster Truck games for the DS at least.

Giana Sisters
I agree with the reviews earlier in the thread but I have to say its more of a calm smooth paced platformer with plenty of tricky jumps.
Its not real difficult but its not boring easy like Mario.
I could see family and friends dying right off the bat though. Those one step left before you fall jumps can be a pain but add a nice challenge I think.
Around the end you also get to play the original Giana Sisters levels all revamped a bit which was a nice reward for completing the game.

I could name some more, but thats all I have off the top of my head.

Clash King is the best driving game on the ds that ive played sofar. so much mindless quick fun. supposed to be getting a USA release soon.

its like a mix of crazy taxi and burnout so very arcadey

also +1 for Retro Game Challenge

I enjoyed Lunar Knights a lot.

I had no idea what it was before I downloaded it, didn't even know how it looked like. But it was good.

Rune Factory too.

I think it might have been beause I was expecting it to be a lot worse, since all the "recent" Harvest Moon games have been utter crap.

Oh quite a few, let's see...

Another one for Rittai Picross.
I can't stop playing it.

Dokapon Journey.
On one player, it get's a touch boring, but as a multiplayer game it's awesome.

PQ: Challenge of the Warlords.
I'm not a bejeweled fan but this is fantastic. I love the combination of puzzle and rpg.

DBZ Attack of the Saiyans
I'm a fan of the DBZ series. It's one of the anime I grew up watching and I've never been entirely impressed with any of the games that go with it. I was really skeptical of a DBZ rpg but damn I picked it up and I can't put it down it's really good and it's set in one of my favorite early story arcs. I got a bit tired of the series in the redundant later "sagas".

Puzzler World
I've fallen in love with link-a-pix.

Henry Hatsworth and the Puzzling Adventure
It looked odd but I was really bored when it came out..picked it up and fell in love. I love the sense of humor and the interesting and bizarre gameplay combo.

Rondo of Swords
So much hate on this game. I picked it up because I adore SRPGs but I was kind of skeptical about it because of the odd looking battle system. One of the hardest and funnest games I've ever played.

The World Ends With You.... That was a really fun game with an interesting storyline. It drained about 70 hours of my life >

The World Ends With You. When I First Got It, I Found It Boring and Deleted it.
I got it again because of the High reviews.
I LOVE THE STORY

Also , I'm playing it again right now ._.

I have a few games that surprised me with their quality, namely:

Hotel Dusk: Room 215
Phoenix Wright (Series)
Space Invaders Extreme
Retro Game Chalange
Soma Bringer
Fire Emblem (GBA, but it can be played on the DS)

and if I may go off system

Viewtiful Joe (GC)
Custom Robo (GC)
Braid (PC)
Cave Story (PC (freeware))
World of Goo (PC)
Deus Ex (PC)
Tsukihime (PC)

Yeah, retro game challenge really smacked me with its awesomeness too. I thought there was going to be a sequel, though ?

my current favorites are carcassonne and rummikub
they have single and multicard multiplayer and if you're alone you can play against the ki which is really good^^

Soma Bringer - I just sorta picked up randomly, and it ended up being pretty awesome.
Peggle - I never played it until someone at work had it and showed it to me. Ate away hours of work right there.

I'm surprised, no one mentioned Professor Layton?

At first glance it really looked like shovelware from the art style to it's 'puzzle' genre. I decided to give it a go after reading all of the posts on it's release topic, and it turned out really more awesome than one would have ever thought.

Nobody mentioned it because it didn't surprise anybody when it was good.
What are you talking about it doesn't look like shovelware |:

Air Traffic Chaos was definitely a good surprise for me.

Close in second was Professor and the Curious Village. With a name like that I never would have picked it up if it wasn't for a friend, but it's incredible... for anyone who hasn't played it.
