The closest there is to Super Smash Brothers is Jump Ultimate Stars OR there is a homebrew game called Super Smash Brothers Tactics but it only has 2 characters.

there has never even been a single smash bro's related announcement for the DS

the game isn't and was never planned for the DS, and I doubt it ever will be

I highly doubt it. It would be their trump card when the ds sells poorly but since that is not the case they wont .

No its called Super Smash Bros: Duel Smash.

Probably wont happen, maybe if the Wii one does better than the GC but I guess we'll have to wait for the DS successor for a portable version.

Would love it to be in 2D though.

I hope you mean side scrolling. I couldn't imagine a smash brothers in 2d (unless it was in paper style! Paper Mario!). So it'd be like Jump!, but Mario..
