Hey,
I've originally tried the original DL DVD of Brawl but my Wii is an older model which can't read DL DVDs. So I got the DVD5 version, and the game won't work. If I boot the Wii with the DVD inside it will say the system files are corrupt. If I insert the DVD when the Wii Menu is already running, it will ask me to eject the disc and reboot the Wii. Any other game is working just fine. How can I get it to work?
Using WiiKey 1 (0.99) and the latest frimware update. (I had HomeBrew channel, but an update has probably removed it.)

Thanks in advance!

DL DVD not playable on old wii's ?? Mine is a launch wii and it plays retail SSBB just fine. Anyway, There were a lot of bad dumps of this game on the net, you may have gotten a bad dump. Wiikey1 (0.99) is what you needed and it is good that you have that. If you have updated to 4.3 without installing the new HBC you screwed up and lost your HBC, but this means you probably have the required ios for the game so that's good. If your not on 4.3 SM then update to the new HBC and find a different copy of the game to test and/or run SysCheck on your wii with HBC and post the results here so others may be able to help you.

Other than that I can't help, sorry.

I read somewhere it requires changing some laser setting to get older Wiis to read DL DVDs, and I'd rather not mass with the internals of my Wii myself. I'm trying another version, an NTSC one this time; it might take some time to download. Is there any way to perform these tests without the HBC? Or any way to get it back?

I also have a launch wii, and the DL-Games work fine for me. Though it is true that some Wiis can't read them, so you might have one. If your Wii can't read the Retail DL-Disc, you can try to order and use the Lens Cleaning Kit from Nintendo. Sending it to Ninty wouldn't probably be a good idea with the Chip installed, etc...

Now:
1) The newest Update for the WiiKey is 1.99 Beta. Better update, imo.
2) You'll need the Trucha-Bug that you can play the DVD5-Version from the Disc-Channel.
3) Or the DVD5-Version should work with NeoGamma and the latest cIOS from Wanin.
4) And you won't be able to play any Copy from the Disc Channel which isn't from your Region if you're on 4.3.

So, Step One should be to get the HBC back. This Tut should help you with that. After that, you could either:
  • Install Wanins cIOS r20 and try to load the Disc with NeoGamma.
  • Use DOP-Mii to restore the Trucha-Bug on the IOS that Brawl uses (no Idea which one, but I think DOP-Mii tells you that). This is more dangerous, btw.
You should also consider to install Priiloader or to use Startpatch to enable Region-Free for the Discs again. Even a better solution for you would be to switch to USB-Loading. You'll have Region-Free without patching anything, and Brawl works like it should (the DL-Version).

Oh, and everything at your own risk.

I managed to get back HBC, and also installed BootMii. How do I preform a SysCheck?

Edit:
Installed NeoGamma. I get Error 1221, and then "No cIOS + DVD-R?" when trying to load SSBB. What's wrong?

Edit2:
Got SysCheck running:
Code:
sysCheck v1.6.2 by Erik Spyder

Region: PAL
The system menu v514 is running under IOS58 (rev 6175)
Hollywood v0x11
Console ID: 43084413

Found 88 titles
Found 24 IOS on this console
Found 14 IOS Stubs on this console

Ah, I see the syscheck problem, you are using 1.6.2, that's a bug, please use 1.6.1

When doing "Downgrade IOS15" I get:
ES_AddTitleFinish returned -1017
Could not set the revision to 0
Downgrade failed.

Is there any easier way? Should I undo whatever I already did with the Trucha Bug Restorer? How?

There is no easier way I think, but before you are going to downgrade IOS15 you MUST reload IOS41 on the TBR start screen.

Remove the stubs! Dowload Multi Mod Manager, reload IOS36 (last point - load another IOS, press A, select 36, press A again), go to Remove stubbed IOSs and make 1., 2. and 3.
To 1.: Answer NO on IOS254

You're right, step 3 is not needed on your wii! Only 1. and 2. I think you should try NeoGamma first to play the DVD5 version, download NeoGamma r8 and cIOS249 v20. Start the cIOS249 installer, choose IOS36, install to slot 249, use IOS56 base and network installation. After installing start NeoGamma and then you should be able to play the DVD5 Brawl version
