Hacking Super Mario Maker update 'Creator mode bug' ?

First off, sorry if this is the wrong section.
Second, I decided to make a thread since I'm just really really curious and Nintendo doesn't say what bug it is.

So, 5.5.0 user here. Yesterday, I read about an emergency downtime to fix the bug.
Why was it an emergency downtime, did it break the game, possible exploit maybe? Or a savegame crash that occurs in Splatoon is in this game maybe?

Again, I'm just really curious and I know MarioNumber1 and NWPlayer looked into the Splatoon and MK8 files.

Can someone look into this?

Let you edit levels and play them as legitimate. It's been confirmed to be fixed.

i loaded up mario maker today and its asking me to update i have tubehax installed and ninty servers blocked in my router for hykems iosu exploit. any way i can play online without updating i am on 5.5.0 U at the moment.

You can spoof firmware, though keep in mind it's (a) permanent at the moment and (b) you're still technically on whatever firmware version you were before (so if you install CFW or something at some point and it asks for version or some steps vary between versions, you'll need to use the steps for your ACTUAL firmware version and not the spoofed one).

I believe there's info on how to do this in the definitive hacking thread that's sticky, but honestly I would just wait, since emunand will render this all irrelevant anyway.

As for updating right now, you can, but everyone involved has recommended against unless you're pre-5.0 I believe.
