Actually, it does change the firmware version. Didn't change yours because it changes to 3.0e, since you already had that one, no changes were made. I had 2.2e and after the update with Mario Galaxy my firmware version was 3.0e, i also read somewhere that semibricked wii's will recover after updating with Mario Galaxy but can't confirm it.

Can someone explain how this works? My last information about bricked Wii consoles is, that u can't get past
the Health Screen, because the system can't find the right language files.
So, how is it possible to "repair" this with SMG when the console doesn't boot up?

these type of consoles cannot be fixed i think. you could try holding + and - on the controller to trigger maintenance mode.

the 'brick' consoles people are talking about here is when you cannot access the settings page of your wii anymore.
super mario galaxy will fix this 'brick' by using the update included on the disc

i used to go out to the recycling center every couple weeks and look at the crts and other electronics people would drop off. Usually screens were broken or severely scratched from being tossed around. Did find a good one here and there, but never anything like a 1080i widescreen crt.

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.

Free release can have loopholes where they still make money through ads
