Can anyone tell me what is wrong with my DS Lite?

I got an R4 and a Kingston 1GB MicroSD. Everything's been working fine...until I used the ROM Trimmer that came with the CD, to trim all the roms.
Then the problem start occuring.

I was playing Portrait of Ruin, when suddenly, my DS went off on me. I tried again and again, and the same thing happens. I slot in my original New Super Mario Bros. and it happens as well.

But when my friend played Phoenix Wright (on R4) using my DS, he could play it all the way till my battery went red without any problems...

A friend of mine said it might be the battery problem. I found it doubtful since I got my NDS about 8 months ago or so, but I went to get a new batt anyways. Tried it, played Portrait, and the same thing happens...

Any wise soul out there who knows what is going on?!

It's probably not the trimmers fault (coincidence).

The turning off randomly sounds like a battery problem to me. The battery is in place securely right?

I have been using R4 with trimmed ROMs on my DS Lite without it suddenly turning off, ever, but I have not used the trimmer from the included CD. The trimmer I used is from the R4 website.

But this happens even when you use your original NSMB game cart?

All I can suggest at this point is taking your microSD out, formatting it, load up the latest R4 kernel off the R4 website and trying again with newly trimmed ROMs.

@4saken: Yes, it is screwed tightly in place.

@septimus: Yea..even with my original NSMB... Wonder if the DS itself is screwed..."bricked"?...

Alright I give that a try. So I will have to format the micSD, redl all my roms and retrim them yes?
I went to get the new kernel after the problem started occuring, but didn't seem to fix the problem. And the trimmer that came with the
CD is the same as the one on the R4 website.

I agree with 4saken, and how long have you had your DS Lite? It could just be that the battery is nearly dead or the cables connected to the battery are loose. Did you happen to drop it around that time? Nintendo might have some information on this.

@imyourxpan: For about 8 months. I just used a new battery and same problem persists, however I will go double-check the tightness again.

I did drop it once, on the 18th of Feb. Height wasn't too great fortunately (about 15cm height). However it worked perfectly fine after
that.
Come to think of it, I do recall opening up the batt cover to clean out the rims, not sure if that was before the drop or after...

Problem started occuring on the 24th of Feb, after I learnt of the trimmer from a friend.

Is it completely random, or maybe it's caused by a button combination? I recall Nintendo said there was some faulty soldering jobs on some DS Lites, that when you push I beleive B and Y it shuts off.

Ok, I've reformatted the micSD, load up a new trimmed Portrait of Ruin, and viola, it still turns off on me. And yes, the battery cover is tightly screwed in

As for the button combination theory...I don't think it's the cause. I never had this problem before I had the R4. Completed my NSMB on it without problems. Played Portrait without problems before and after the drop.

My friend played Sonic Rush (on R4) without getting any problems... I'm beginning to wonder if it's Portrait of Ruin that's a problem..but yet it doesn't seem like the cause of it...since NSMB (original) produced the turn off me as well..

This is so freaking weird

Leave the SD card alone; The fact that it does it for an original cartridge (Mario Bros) means it doesn't only affect the R4. It's a hardware issue, there's something wrong with the DS lite itself and as you've only had it for 8 months it is still under warranty. Maybe it's not related to the drop, if fact it's better for you if it isn't. The warranty's there to cover manufacturing faults and parts breaking down before they should with use so send it back and they might fix it for free.

Another thought: how is it with GBA games? There might be some dust trapped in slot-1, try blowing on it. (I dont know if that'd cause it to turn off thou)

Ok, I tried things out with my friend's DS and his R4:

1. My R4 worked fine on his DS. (played R4 Castlevania PoR)

2. His R4 went down after some time on my DS. (played R4 NSMB)

3. My friend played his Jump! Ultimate Allstars on my DS for nearly an hour till he turned it off. Nothing ever happened throughout...

4. My friend played Mario Kart multiplayer with me. Didn't go down throughout the duration played.

5. Nope, my slot-1's pretty alright. And I don't own any GBA carts.

So yeah, crap. It's gotta be the DS Lite itself...
