Story-driven co-op extraction shooter 'Hell Express' announced

Indie developer Full Metal Bagel has today unveiled its inaugural game, Hell Express. It is described as a story-driven co-op PvE isometric extraction shooter for 1-4 players. For the occasion, a trailer was aired which somewhat has some Death Stranding vibes:

As a skilled member of an armed delivery company operating between the living world and Limbo, you'll craft, loot, and fight to complete high-stakes deliveries—all while uncovering heart-gripping stories from the realm that exists somewhere between life and death.

Set in the metropolis of "New Bay", Hell Express is a small indie company that specializes in deliveries to Limbo, the treacherous realm of the dead. Their business license is not exactly proper, and their working conditions are anything but safe—but for the struggling communities outside the city, they’re the only bridge between the living and the deceased.

In Hell Express, players can choose to play as any member of the crew, driving their customized armed Hell trekker into Limbo's treacherous depths. While urgently locating recipients, players can scavenge for valuable resources condensed from human memories - essential for upgrading both gear and vehicles. As the delivery business begins to thrive, they will start to attract clients with more peculiar requests. This will force them to delve deeper and face darker mysteries that lie both within the world of the dead and within themselves.

Key features of Hell Express include:
  • 4-Player Co-op: Team up with your friends to deliver goods and extract rare resources on co-op adventures that will take you through the realm of Limbo.
  • Vehicular Mayhem: Drive your crew through Limbo in an armored vehicle through diverse environments and embark on epic otherworldly road trips.
  • Customize to Survive: Design your own gear loadouts and spend your resources to upgrade your characters, weapons, and vehicle back at home base.
  • Story-driven Experience: In addition to collecting loot and earning rewards, players will be rewarded for their bravery by unlocking Limbo’s mysteries.

Hell Express is now available for wishlist on Steam, with a playtest planned for 2025.

Another "extraction shooter", I still fail to see a real trend here, one that's actually initiated by consumers.

Marathon is probably the biggest one coming up and it looks .... bland and "un-innovative" to say the least.

At least this one has a different perspective and looks different, and it's PvE so it looks pretty cool. If I could bring some people to try with me, I would.

But are there enough people to play the PvP ones ?
I feel like so many devs jumped on that micro-trend because they thought this might be the next Battleroyale-like meta.
Might be off-topic but because the genre is mentioned, I just got reminded of all that

too many cashgrab games being developed right now that i just dont like playing modern games until they are old if they can even be played. im fine with missing these online only games that will dissapear and only suckers who wasted cash on them remember the games after they dissapear

if it doesnt pass the game preservation checklist gamers should just say screw the games and if enough gamers did that they could buck the trend. but way too many simps that have turned gaming into an onlyfans model.
