Official Linux support (not a test build), offline messaging, recent chat history, a web interface for chatting (maybe this means the steam plugin for pidgin will get an update to make it less annoying)... and a bunch of bug fixes. Also OSX users get a performance boost, apparently, but I don't personally run it on OSX so I can't say one way or the other.

Though I am not a steam user and not necessarily a fan of the "bundle it into one application" model so beloved of various highly vocal types out there this looks like some good stuff.

I've had this for a while, there was a steam beta anyone could have opted in to. It was just as stable as the official release in my experience, but with more features. Nice to see it merged as stable though!

I do like Steam on Linux I've been in the beta for a bit, Though there is still a lot of headway to be made to get more games Valve will surely deliver here but it is other devs I wonder about.

not many, and most are just indie games and some classic valves
It's got a lot of non-indie games on there. Serious Sam 3, Bastion, Killing Floor, Postal 2, etc.

Then there's a lot of games people consider "indie" that actually aren't, but that's another discussion.

My only request from steam is that they would allow me to send my dota 2 items as gifts to my other accounts.

They most likely focused on finishing their port of Team Fortress 2 since it's one of their most profitable titles.

It was also their introductory Mac piece, it's free-to-play to attract more Linux users, and it's one of the most played titles on Steam.

L4D2 as well as the rest of the Valve collection will come eventually.
