After 3 years on the market, Valve has finally discontinued the Steam Deck LCD model. There has not been an official statement as to why, although there are some guesses; one is the recent RAM shortage, another is that a new, more affordable OLED model will release. What do you think?

In the current market I can't see a more affordable model getting released, it seems likely they're working on a Steam Deck 2 but that might still be a few years away from release, and it will almost certainly cost more, but still be reasonably priced compared to competitors which tend to be around 800 bucks.

What is likely is that the base model just costs too much to make. It was not profitable when it first released and with the changing market it's now costing Valve money for each unit sold and it just doesn't make any sense to keep making them, if they raised the price on already aging specs it would not be attractive to customers.

...and the Steam Deck is now more expensive than a Switch 2 and just as expensive as a base PS5 without any discounts.

What happened to being pro-consumer, GabeN? surely you can spare a couple millions and all those yachts to keep those prices down?, or maybe it's those equity firms demanding you kill off the cheap LCD model that is apparently a conspiracy 🤷

Guarantee you it'll be ~1000 and that gets you a rather decent, proper pre-built from almost any big mfg on almost any sale.
Yeah, except those non-Valve prebuilts can actually be upgraded. You cannot upgrade the ill-fated, underpowered and overpriced Steam Machine. Defeats the purpose of a PC!

Well that we don't know yet I meant you can probably upgrade ram and the drive.
