the USB C on the switch will bottleneck the transfer anyway. The only time youll see speed difference is when youre transferring from PC to the external drive

USB C is extremely fast, up to 10Gbps per second. I believe the real issue is that the USB on the dock is USB 2
One benefit would be that the SSD will use much less power than a traditional spindle drive. This will result in less stress being put onto the dock circuit board.
