i am totally new with this, can you explain it in simple words, what is "exploit", "CFW". btw i got a ds without a card, i just have an r4 that i wanted to use for the 3ds to play rom hacks.

Exploit is basically a thing that uses a bug in a game/app to get to homebrew.
CFW, aka custom firmware, is basically much more advanced homebrew, but it's also more useful.
I believe you can play ROM hacks with an R4, correct me if I'm wrong.
You may be able to use that exact R4 later on to get CFW though.
