Sony will be skipping E3 2019

Sony Interactive Entertainment has just confirmed that they will not be making a showing at next year's E3 conference. In an interview with Game Informer, Sony execs claimed that the company is looking for "inventive opportunities to engage the community" as an alternative to a live conference. This marks the second time Sony has skipped out on press conferences in recent time, with PlayStation Experience 2018 being cancelled as well. The reason for skipping PSX 2018 was reportedly due to a lack of footage and information available to be given about upcoming games, but by the time E3 2019 rolls around, PlayStation users will be looking forward to major exclusive titles like Death Stranding, the Last of Us Part 2, Dreams, and Ghosts of Tsushima, all scheduled for a launch in 2019. While Nintendo hosts Nintendo Directs during E3, and EA does EA Play offsite a few days prior, Sony has no plans for a press conference or announcement of upcoming games near that timeframe. This puts an end to the 24 year streak of Sony's attendance at E3, starting all the way back in 1995.

Don’t really cared much about Sony, but I think it’s best to not attend a show where they have nothing to show. I’d rather watch a conference choke full of unannounce games that hasn’t been shown than games ALREADY been shown just new gameplay. This year conference for Sony was not only weird but just plain boring especially their little “podcast” setup where 4 people talking about games. I’m sure the Twitch chat is gonna be more chaotic with the Microsoft fanboys spamming that Sony won’t have a show even if their own show sucks.

The lesbian stuff is SJW. I'm not sure who it appeals to otherwise. Certainly not me and my wife was disgusted with it where I was simply disinterested.
Lesbians are only acceptable if they're cute anime girls or wrestling in swimsuits. /s

Anyway, Sony probably plans on announcing PS5 before E3 and I have a feeling most of their 2019 PS4 titles are releasing late so a PSX in late summer or early fall would be perfect for them. Still, skipping E3 outright is weird considering Sony has announced and shown off so many of their best selling titles there.

Not surprising considering how their past few E3s have mostly consisted of regurgitating trailers for TLoU2/Days Gone/etc. Chances are they’ve moved most of their current first party workforce over to PS5 developmen. If this year’s E3 was anything to go by then chances are Microsoft’s getting really aggressive with acquiring marketing rights or even total/temporary system exclusivity like what Sony was doing throughout most of this console generation, they literally have nothing to show besides Death Stranding or Resident Evil 2 which are already both very likely to be at the Game Awards in December.
Honestly though, I hope this among a lot of other recent events (as well as Sony’s constant “lol screw old games” attitude when it comes to offering backwards compatibility) triggers a market shift, be it to PC, Xbox or the Switch, Sony is basically monopoly at this point just like they were during the PS2 era, and we all know how that went once the PS3 came about, it was... kind of a disaster for most of its inital life up until the rebranding in 2009/2010, $599 U.S. dollars, anyone?
Less cinematic “Lost and sad in the forest” third-person action games would be good too, give us more variety like the old days, bring back Sly Cooper or Ape Escape, or something, make some new IPs with more of a focus on their “fun factor” rather than being semi-artsy “We want to become Hollywood!” simulators, actually utilize Japan Studio for something, I’d say that they should continue Ratchet & Clank (from where Into the Nexus left off) as well but given Spider-Man’s success i’m guessing that the most we’ll get are small low budget R&C games from Insomniac while most of the studio works on pumping out sequels to Spider-Man for the time being.

Aww... poor little snowflakes.... Need a safe place from something that offends you!
Not really offended, just not interested, and maybe I'll be wrong, but I expect demand and sales to be weak.

Maybe some people want slobbering muff humping in their games, but it just seems a little forced and gratuitous.

Then here is an idea.. Don't buy the damn game.

I personally think Last of Us is a cliche piece of shit, so I don't buy it and don't mention it unless it's some bullshit that is relavant. All you're doing is whining about how it "offends" you that someone you don't like is represented. 90 percent of Male/female relationships in movies and games are forced and gratuitous.

You're just hypocritical little snowflakes.

Bet your wife is christian as well. *although I could be wrong I will admit that*.

As well as what? Neither of us worship Jewish gods.

Look, man, I won't buy it, and here's the thing. I've kissed guys, touched their dicks, and dressed as a lady. I'm okay with that, but if Mario did it, I wouldn't play the games. Ever. Wait he does have dresses now, right?

The real reason Sony is didn't do their PSX this year, and also skipping E3 -- the are planning their own bigger event with the release of the next PlayStation console, nicknamed PS5, which is also backwards compatible with PS4.

I mean they either spend hundreds of thousands on setting up a show and paying all those actors, getting devs to showcase games, etc, OR they spend a quarter of that on online advertisements/announcements. I really don't see the need for an event like E3 in this current era seeing how companies can advertise themselves just as well, if not better, on their own online.

well this day and age company's get all their games revealed before e3 anyway so there is rarely anything to show.

What's the point even of having an E3 if every company keeps skipping it ?

@Chary
Most likely nintendo are going to win next year if they will announce something
We all know xbox is dead already lol
I think sony will announce new titles and and a new IP when they announce the ps5
how is xbox dead ? To my understanding Xbox as a brand is even bigger than it was before and it keeps on growing especially with them aiming also towards the PC market instead of solely focusing on their console wich means less sales and less people to play. How is that considered to be dead in your eyes ? Isn't fanboyism clouding your eyes ?
