Sony Updates ToS, Doesn't Remove Resale Policy?

The latest update of the Terms and Conditions on Sony Europe’s SEN website started a little buzz in the Sony community. The culprit? Section 7 of the “Software Usage Terms” in the legal documents section of the playstation.net website.

Shuhei Yoshida, after hearing the news, posted this on his Twitter:

Meanwhile, Sony has yet to make any official statements regarding this "change" (and has yet to change their ToS, as well), however it's more than likely that this is just a slight hiccup, and Sony's plans to allow pre-owned games is still the same.

It's not even in "official" wording, it reads like a 10-year-old wrote it. Smells of a draft from a mile away, not to mention that it goes against the whole media campaign Sony spun about "sharing games easily". Someone made a terrible mistake the way I see it.

I was under the impression this was to stop unauthorised retailers, not the pre-owned market. A clause designed to stop the kind of people who buy (or more often steal, let's be honest, back of the truck jobs are still prevalent in this scenario) A tonne of stock chep somewhere lke Tesco when they have an offer on and sell it at full retail price or higher at a market or something to make a profit because the gamers can't buy it at their local store any more 'cause these ass hats have sneaky ninja'd all the stock.

Might just be me but that's what I think this bit's about, not about stopping people trading in their games or lending them to friends, Sony wouldn't do anything as dumb as trying to stop that given the hugely negative reaction such ideas tend to get.

He said it's really nothing to worry about though.

In Europe, resale is one of your statutory rights, even for downloaded software. The only problem with the latter is that there is no mechanism in place to allow you to do so.

There are supposedly some reports coming in that this is just a draft regarding pirated or illegitimate copies of the games, not retail copies. I'll update the OP as official reports are posted.
