Sonic Generations Game Review

I'm listening to the leaked soundtrack, it's glorious. Utterly glorious. So many games have had music referenced from them, even Sonic Spinball's Toxic Caves is in, Sonic Battle, Advance 1 2 and 3, Rush/Adventure, Sonic 3D Blast.

It's magnificent. This is not a hit and miss soundtrack, even the songs I don't recognise are good.

I agree with you so much.
So much win and nostalgia from this. Much better then Sonic 4's "genesis" Music. sounded more like Dieing cats to me.

The game is great, I especially like the Skill Shop, where you can buy old consoles so you can play the original Sonic games.

This, I HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE THIS. I bought all the sonic games on XBLA. Having bought sonic 1, 2 days before they announced it was going to be on the game disc >=(

Is this comment really necessary? This was posted under "User Submitted News" and in case you forgot this just so happens to be a gaming forum meaning any user can post any news as long as its relevant to games and/or news.

Regardless of the review I'm still going to get it. I actually liked Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and and I obviously like Classic Sonic so regardless of what this review says or any other review I'm still going to get it.

Yup, I was asking a question, this really isn't news.

Also, why bother bringing up your last point, you're acting as if 8.5 is a bad score.

I meant that regardless of what the this review or any review said I'd still be buying it. I wasn't implying 8.5 or whatever is a bad score and I have no idea why anyone would think so.

I don't see a review as news so I'll move this to General Consoles Discussion.

Anyway, I'm not really hyped for the game at all. Like I've played Sonic games and they never struck me as amazing. I'd much rather buy Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for like $20 and get the first three Sonic games plus tons of awesome stuff.

Also, side note, if not mentioned before, this game includes a copy of the original Sonic the Hedgehog.

People need to understand how numbers work, I know you may think that if its not a 9 its not a high number, but by far you're wrong

Anything above a 7 is a good rating, 7.5 is above average, 8 is Good,8.5 is great, 9/9.5 is amazing and 10 is perfect,

8.5 Is special, it means its GOTY contender for its genre

You forget that video game review scores are balanced oddly (Most game reviewers give most scores in the 6 to 10 range). Because of this, what each number means is skewered; 7 is average, 8 is good, 9 is really good, and 10 is great. Below a 6 tends to mean that the game is shit.

10 is supposed to mean Perfect, but in practice, it doesn't.

After all, tons of games get Perfects... but how many are in reality perfect? Basically none. 10 has been so overused and devalued, in fact, that some reviewers have begun using 11 as the new perfect standard (Plus for the Spinal Tap reference).

I don't know, I've never been a huge fan of IGN's scoring system in particular; then again, I could say the same thing for IGN as a whole.

The pinnacle of gaming, a masterpiece may not be flawless, but it is so exceptional that it is hard to imagine a game being better. At the time of its release, this game is the not just the best the system can offer, but better than we could have expected.
Example: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Doesn't have to be perfect, just mind blowing good of it's time.

At the end of the day, I think this Sonic Gen is going to be good and there is no need for them to hang up their hats for the series.

And there I would have to disagree with them, and most reviewers. A 100% inherently meas something is perfect despite how a particular site may define it, and I just don't think anything could ever reach that pinnacle. Giving games 100%'s cheapens them and the rating, putting them on an impossible to reach pedestal.

For instance, I am loving Batman: Arkham City. It's an amazingly well crafted game, and I think it may be a contender for my game of the year (And this year also had Deus Ex: Human Revolution and, especially, Portal 2), but a 10/10? No; there are flaws, however minor they may be, that can always be smoothed over and improved upon in the future installments that are sure to come. That can only happen if you acknowledge that those flaws exist in the first place.

I don't hate them; I said I'm not a huge fan. I have never really found their reviewers or writers to be all that great, and their features and lists have, at times, been poorly put together for the sake of getting attention (I wouldn't go this far, but to paraphrase Penny Arcade when they said Donkey Kong Country was a bad game: "Which is it, IGN? Are you assholes or liars?").

Here's something I will never understand: How does disliking something automatically mean you are jealous of it? It sounds like a poor excuse to try and discredit someone who disagrees with your viewpoint.

So far, I've only seen the original "Sonic The Hedgehog", but a few others should pop up in the Shop once I progress further in the game.

Hopefully they don't butcher the YM2612 emulation like they did on the Ultimate Genesis Collection (Sonic's jump and spin dash sound weird).

Kind of misread it there, and by kind of, I mean seriously. Still, I would say there is some truth to the fact that game reviews tend to be heavily weighted to 7-10 scores; the graph demonstrates that mostly.

But otherwise... yeah, I fucked up.
