  • Each version of Sonic Generations has exclusive stages
  • Casino Nights is a 3DS exclusive stage
  • 3DS gets exlusive boss stages as well
  • There will be a different melody for each classic or modern stage. Modern versions of classic stages will have classic melody remixes
  • Takashi Iizuka confirms in his interview a brand new principal antagonist for Generations, which “erased time and space,” according to Iizuka.
  • Special stages are coming back and they appear to be derived from Sonic Heroes.
  • Tetsu Katano, who directed Sonic and the Black Knight and did work on the Sonic Adventure series, is directing the 3DS edition.
  • Sonic Team and Dimps are co-developing the 3DS edition.
  • the 3DS edition will only have Sonic friends “who are integral to the story”
  • There will be no Wii edition of Sonic Generations.
  • The point of the console edition is “reimagining the series’s classic zones in vivid, high-definition graphics.” The Wii can deliver 480p 16×9 graphics, but is not a high definition console.
  • Classic Sonic: Simplified platforming-heavy approach
  • Modern-style Sonic gameplay is comparable to the Sonic Rush/Sonic Colors DS titles
  • This is different than the 3D gameplay for the console versions
  • Gameplay faithful to the Genesis era
  • Physics feel more authentic than Sonic 4
  • Only move is Spin Dash (besides running and jumping)
  • All environments come from previous titles
  • Stages themselves are brand new in terms of layout
  • Modern Sonic: Action more kinetic than in the classic stages
  • Full set of moves available for Modern Sonic
  • Grind rails, slide under obstacles, jump off walls, use a homing attack, collect rings to fill boost gauge
  • Extra “gimmicks” including ziplines and pads
  • No major aesthetic differences between both versions of Green Hill Zone
  • Modern Sonic stage has a jazzy remix of the original tune
  • Modern remixes of classic tracks
  • Big Arm boss: controlled by Dr. Robotnik
  • Robotnik appears in his form from the Genesis games
  • Robotnik controls the robot a bit differently now: rotates into the background and thrusts Big Arm’s fist towards you
  • Unlock special challenges with StreetPass or Play Coins
  • Two-player race mode via local wireless
  • Some story differences between the 3DS version and the console versions, but they’re basically the same
  • Directed by Tetsu Katano (Sonic and the Black Knight director)
  • Physics made from scratch

It doesn't look too bad. I'll be purchasing it.

So...we basically get Sonic Rush 4. That sucks. I've always wanted a portable 3D Sonic where you can run everywhere. Not just left and right.

should be able to handle something like that.

I'm pretty sure it's gonna be good anyway, just like the DS ones were. I'll probably buy it. The graphic upgrade calls me into it but come the fuck on. They could've made modern gameplay more like the consoles.

I`m very happy with this decision, since there really are two kinds of modern Sonic games: 3D and 2D (and no, I don`t consider the Rush/advance-series to be classic or post-classic, since that`s what Sonic 4 was/attempted to be).

So why should they dismiss the one modern style people also love?! I really like the Advance/Rush series for what it was and like I said I`m very pleased with this decision and I don`t think this is an easy way out for SEGA... It is just what is suitable for a Nintendo handeld for 3 Generations (GBA->DS->3DS)! Gotta keep the tradition

I don`t want to miss out on 2D gaming just because the power of these systems increased. That`s why I always loved the DS. Made developers to make the games 2D because of its limitations

(partially kidding...)

The presence of the 3D bonus stages shows that it wouldn't have been a lot of trouble at all to just port the console version and have similar gameplay.

Thanks for the disappointment, Sega. Why would we expect anything else?

*Modern Sonic is different from the console versions and is more similar to Sonic Rush/Sonic Colors DS with an emphasis on speed. The 3D is used a lot more in this mode, such as with the first boss (Giant Fist) going towards you. Sonic will also be able to move between the background foreground.

Well i'll still buy it, but it's gone from my "buy when first launched" list to "buy if i have nothing else to play" list.

I enjoyed Sonic Colours on the DS, but no where near as much as on the Wii, so for now i'll stick to the PS3 version of Generations as my launch purchase.
