SEGA has put out a trailer for its upcoming modern Sonic game, Sonic Forces. This title is the 25th anniversary game for the Sonic franchise, despite releasing a year late. It appears to be a sequel to 2011's Sonic Generations, featuring both Classic and Modern Sonic. This specific trailer shows off Classic Sonic in a new rendition of Green Hill Zone. Sonic Forces is set to launch Holiday 2017, for Switch, PC, PS4, and XBO.

Sonic Forces is basically Sonic Generations 2. Not bad by any means but Sega should've just titled it as it is, Sonic Generations 2.

I know many Sonic fans, or specifically, Adventure fanboys loathe that anyone dares to say Sonic 06 is Adventure 3 but considering it has everything that would make it SA3, it technically is.

i'm a big sonic fan and i agree, sonic 06 was a frustrated SA3 and sonic forces is a generations 2, i just hope i can play this game, i like modern sonic games

Sonic 06 isn't all bad if one cherry picks it.

The Xbox 360 Sonic 06 demo is pretty darn good and that PC mod with Sonic 06 stages is the definitive way to enjoy Sonic 06, if one really wants to. I wish the Retail Sonic 06 would have been as good, if not even better than the Sonic 06 Demo.

I'm not exaggerating by praising the Sonic 06 Demo, it really is that good!

It just an example that they haven't shy away from mixing styles. Funny, considering in this game they mixed realistic and non-realistic art styles. I wouldn't be surprise if there were 2d level in Mario Odyssey. Yes, it isn't a 50/50 split, but if they did a game like that, as long as the game is good, why does it matter?

Because why not? Just because one team is doing 2d Sonic levels, doesn't mean the other team can't or shouldn't.

Not saying they can't or that they shouldn't. Jus that I don't see the point, nor am I a fan of it being such a heavy mix of both styles. Sure Mario has a little bit of side scrolling in its modern 3D titles, but it doesn't take up close to half of the game, so it typically just feels like a part of the 3D experience, plus if Mario released a proper 2D (not 2.5D) style game like what Sonic Mania is, then that would be all the more reason why I'd say yeah, get rid of the side scrolling portions of these modern 3D Mario games. Generations was a game split in half (and this looks to be too), and while it was fun to have both styles of Sonic back in full force, it feels completely unnecessary now to me since Mania is coming out in the same year. Can you imagine if Sonic Mania had a large portion of the game in a suddenly 3D gameplay style? Blah, no thanks. Not that I don't like 3D gameplay style, but that's not what I'm looking for in my 2D platforming experiences.
