I have an original "fat" PS3 launch version and I think I am on latest OFW... Is it possible to still softmod and install CFW? Thoughts appreciated

Note: Model says CECHA01

No.

Only way it to use a progskeet/Teensy H/W flasher to flash back to 3.55. Then you can install whatever CFW you want from there.
