Source?
Atmosphère is "just" a CFW (like SX OS) and would still need to be booted into from within RCM.
A software coldboothax has nothing to do with that in the first place.
Or ain't this thread about coldboothax at all?
Atmosphere is another CFW. We're not talking about Atmosphere.

In addition to Atmosphere, there are private TrustZone exploits that can launch CFW without the need for RCM. The exploit for 1.0.0 already has a write up and could conceivably be implemented at any time. The exploits for 2.0.0-3.0.0 will probably be released around the time Atmosphere is released. The exploits for 3.0.1-4.1.0 will probably be released much later. These are not cold boot exploits, which means they require that you boot into the OS and launch something like the web browser to load them.

Untethered coldboot exploits do not exist as far as we know, but they are theoretically possible on versions 1.0.0-3.0.2, with 1.0.0 being the most likely candidate.

And exactly this is the only thing I was talking about. :P
Guess we would have to wait veeery long for that if it ever happens.

As long as we get warmboot possible soon I would be damn happy without ever needing the crap auto-RCM and without needing to send payloads more than the first time only...

I still use GW emunand and 4 me it is completely hassle free almost as good as coldbooting at least the way they got it running on the 3ds.

Ps: but since I'm on 3.02, I can't simply wait is for a full hardmod by TX soldering chip and have coldboot in the near future, then if a pure coldboot softmod would come later I would desolder the chip.

I cant seem to find an answer to this but here goes - does the 4.1.0 private exploit through the browser require an internet connection? From the mention of the browser I assume so but then what if you want to launch CFW and have no internet. Is there another way?

Then you'd have to use a jig and USB cable. Alternatively, you can just leave the console in sleep mode if you are planning on going to a place without Internet.

There will probably be ways to launch the web exploit without actually connecting to the internet. If you have an Android phone, for example, it should be simple enough to connect to it and upload the payload to your Switch through an app.

If the OS is free, why is it being RE'd?
Not "if the OS is free". It IS actually free. Go to their site and download it to see for yourself. Or ask anyone who has not lived behind the moon in the last few weeks.

To answer your question: its RE'd just for the fun of RE'ing

I know, I was just wondering, ugh.
Sorry if I sounded snappy.

SX itself is free to download and you can use it to launch the hbmenu for free. The backup loader requires you to buy a valid licence, however. This is the case whether or not you have the dongle. No licence, no backups. Given that hekate does a perfectly good job of running hbmenu, the main point of using SX is its backup loader.

As for why people want to RE it, TX have obfuscated the code to make it as difficult as possible to be casually read. It's a good challenge for developers, especially those who don't agree with TX's practices.

The whole scene is so confusing, there's no cohesion or all-in-one threads to tell people what we can or can't do on 5.x.x, no organization, so I get lost.

I forgot to mention that it's probably going to be a long time before the private 4.1.0 exploit is released to the public. You'd be better off using RCM for the time being.
