How do I soft mod my PS2 to play backups? Got one given to me for free so I wanted to put it to some kind of use. Thanks for any info to help me

That's all I have to do? Wow, that was simpler than I thought. Do I burn the games to discs or a USB stick?

Disc backups are more stable. There are some compatibility issues via usb

I don't think anything with bios v2.3 work with mcboot. That would be the 90004 8c.

Is it a fat or slim? For slim ps2's disc backups are the way to go. For fat ps2's you can buy a network adapter for 10 ~ 20 bucks and play off of a harddrive.

USB isn't really viable because of the load times. Videos in games won't even work.

If you have a Memory Card Adapter for the PS3, then you just need a Windows PC between XP and 8, or even a linux system. Then you just have to run some software with instructions to flash the data to a PS2 memory card.

4.7gb should be fine for most games. A few games use dual-layer dvd's. Be sure to buy good quality dvd's like Verbatim.

Any DVD+Rs. The system can barely handle them, as it was made before those came into existence. Make sure you stick with DVD-Rs. While it is possible to use them, I've personally never made them work on my Phat PS2, and I learned this too late when burning a DVD DL for one game I had.

Hmm, I tried tdk and they weren't very good. Just stick to good brands like Sony, Verbatim, and Maxell and you should be fine.

Well, of course Sony brand DVD-Rs work on a Sony system.

If ist a Scph-7000X you can solder the IDE Points and use it with a IDE to SATA Adapter, or IDE to SD Adapter, then use OPL to play the Games
